The deployment he got in the WJC does not suggest the coaches feel he's a defensive liability.

Even as a Habs fan from what I've read I expected him to be f***ing atrocious, but he did a lot better than I imagine.
It's really encouraging. He wasn't an absolute stud, but he did well.

I still don't know how people can watch him and see anything but elite edge work and backskating ability. Some people feel offended a 150 pound guy can succeed in hockey I guess.

Hutson played 27:20 today and put on a defensive clinic.
Other than Chesley, no one else on the American team played 19 min or more.

He looked pretty solid all things considered, not quite as dynamic as I was expecting but better defensively.

Great, safe performance by Lane. Also showed he has guts. I'm still unsure if he can handle the rigors of playing defense in the pro's. But I hope he shows me I'm wrong.

He's a lot more dynamic with BU than what he showed at this tournament. He played a safer offensive game possibly due to the offensive talent team USA had.

He had a sequence in the final where he skated out of trouble in his own zone and I had a "Oh, I get it" moment.

This guy is going to be a great player. He's incredibly driven, and I think that will help him overcome the limitations he has to make him an effective player at the NHL level.

I think the only way he stays is if they don't win the NCAA championship, and he thinks they will have a really strong team next year.
Otherwise, he'll probably want to prove himself at the next level.

Saved his best game for last. He tilted the play when he was on the ice today, especially in his own zone. Great stick, great leverage in the board battles, clean breakouts.

After that "fight", I want him as our next Captain. Year 1. This kid is freaking exciting and has heart and plays with a chip on his shoulder at all times.
Played very well defensively. He sacrificed offense to play a complete game. That was surprising to me. I didn't realize his defense was as good as it is.

I have to (respectfully) disagree he was an absolute stud and the only reason he didn't play more flashy is that he was out there with an overabundance of offensive threats. Smart players like Hutson know when they have to let their offensive skills talk and when to play a highly complimentary and defensively sound game.
If anything the hockey world knows what Hutson can do offensively. Breaking Brian Leetch's record and now he's shown he can be elite in a whole other category of defenseman something that he got some (fair) critics about the last few years.
Kids going to be an excellent top 4 D at the minimum and with potential to be a star in the NHL.
