I've been saying for quite a while that he was falling. We moved him down to 9th in February and I told people that I knew many scouts who had him outside the top 10. I was SHOCKED when Bob still had him as his top ranked D in his mid term rankings. At that point he was 3rd at best for me and I didn't know a single scout who had him as their top Dman. Most liked Serg or Juolevi as their top guy.

It's hockey IQ related for myself and almost every scout I spoke to about him this year. He's not dumb, but scouts who dropped him rank him below the big D ahead of him in that category. I do want to stress that I like Chychrun and think he will be a good NHL'er - He just got passed by guys we liked more.

Played under 18s for us. American upbringing though, and played most of his youth hockey in South Florida. I'm sure if their wasn't Matthews and Chychrun represented the States there would be alot more made of that story.

Lol I havent switched up once he will be the best dman out of this draft imo

I think he becomes a top pairing guy, not sure whether he will be a true #1 or #2 but time will tell. He's not on Ekblad's level but I'd put him in the same tier as Hanifin.

Depends on the person. He's been the best dman in the draft for me the entire year.

It will be interesting to see if continues to grow or if he's reached his peak. He's the most NHL ready D right now, but in the long run I'd put my money on Juolevi

I'd put good money down that a top-prospect 18 year old defenseman isn't currently at his peak.

Huh? He's a completely different player than Schenn, he can actually skate. And he isn't mean like either Schenn and Gubranson are. Questioning if you've legitimately watched these players..

I think Chychrun struggled with the pre-draft hype, and that affected how people judged his hockey IQ.

You have a kid who knows he's supposed to be a top selection going into the season. He wants to justify the hype, so he starts forcing plays instead of remaining calm with the puck. Scouts start to question his IQ, so he starts forcing plays even more because he's compensating. His game gets further away from him, more doubts are raised about him, and he ends the season with some magnificent games once he's dialed back in and handles his own expectations better.
