It will be interesting to see how his impressive skills translate to the pro ranks --Morrow came out of the same jr. system in Portland into the same Pens pro system (and struggled) so that will be interesting to watch to see if there is an correlation there.

fwiw: Morrow has been salvaged by the Bruins development system and is improving in leaps and bounds.

The Pens AHL coaches, specifically Alain Nasreddine, wanted to break down Morrow's defensive game and rebuild it, because he had a ton if bad habits picked up from Portland. Morrow didn't feel like he needed that, and often had problems with the coaches from that. I think that's a big reason he was shipped out. Good to see Morrow turning it around, but I'm not losing any sleep over him being gone.

I don't think Pouliot has the same defensive problems that Morrow had. Portland in itself is a very offensive team, and it doesn't focus on D much at all. At the WJC, Pouliot was solid at both ends of the ice because he had to. At Portland, he could lay on the ice and take a nap in the defensive zone, because Portland will still score 5 goals in that game. Put him in a situation where he has to to play defense and he can, and pretty well I may add. He doesn't need to with Portland.

Same with Lovejoy, yet Maatta and Niskanen came in and were spectacular in the Pens system. Hard to believe it's anything Portland-related...it really comes down to the individual.

I've always felt DP's game is far too casual. He's at his best when he's a little bit angry and emotionally invested in the game. When he isn't I see far too many brain cramps.

He has all the tools to be a top offensive dman in the league, just needs to find a way to stay more commited to being physically and defensively engaged.

He's also tough. Not many people know that, he reminds me of Bieksa in that fashion-he'll surprise people early in his career with how well he can handle himself with his gloves off and I'm not just referring to one punching joe hicketts.
I do not see this at all, his toughness is one of the qualities he lacks. He's along the same lines of Shea Theodore weak, who is pretty dang weak himself.

Not saying Bieksa is out of the realm of possibility, but he needs the gym and protein to be anywhere close to Bieksa's toughness. I still think he is more offensive potential than Kevin, but is way worse defensively.

I didn't see this posted in here, thought it was interesting considering Pouliot took quite the cheap shot before he KO'ed Hicketts.

Gets going around the 35 sec mark:

Still can't believe the CHL lets kids fight like that. Pretty disgusting.

Nobody forced Hicketts to fight, in fact Pouliot didn't even look interested in fighting, Hicketts could have just held him until the situation dissipated. And fighting is apart of the game, it wouldn't make sense not to give these guys the practice in at least defending themselves before going pro.

Don't think he compares to Bieksa in play style other than sometimes getting too casual, moreso the sneaky tough, but again, we don't have to agree on that either.

Nobody forced 5'7" Joey Hicketts to take his gloves off, nor did they force Steven Hodges to sucker Pouliot in the back of the head. I hope Hodges apologized to Hicketts for that, because you know almost all of the heat behind that punch was anger from being suckered.

I like Hicketts, but that was a dumb move on his part even trying to throw punches there.

These excuses are hilarious. Most of these kids aren't going pro, and yeah, just because they're allowed to fight doesn't mean they should. If teenage boys are allowed to punch eachother without getting into trouble they'll want to do it. Fighting in pro hockey is already senseless and it's even more senseless when teenagers are doing it. I'm actually pretty adults actually want to see kids fight eachother and encourage them to do so. The NHL is having to worry about long-term effects of concussions due to fighting, which makes the CHL look pretty bad.

You could tell Pouliot was just biding his time until he could land that big shot. Good on him. No one forced Hicketts into fighting him, in fact, Hicketts appeared to be the aggressor.

I don't see it mentioned anywhere else, but Pouliot won the CHL Defenseman of the Year award. The awards were announced yesterday.

Fantastic to hear. Hope he has a good camp and with Maatta being out might have a chance of a 9 game stint.

He's having shoulder surgery along with Maatta so kills any chance he has of making the team. He'll be a pro next year so the 9 game stint doesn't matter.

Pouliot just keeps on producing at every level.

Was leading the WBS Penguins in scoring as a rookie with 20 points in 23 games when he was called up, now has 1 + 1 in 2 games with Pittsburgh.

Looks good so far, obviously needs some work in a few areas, But then again how many 20 year old pro rookies are mistake-less finished products right out of juniors?

He looked good in the first game but bad, IMO, in the next two.

He needs to be better defensively, especially if he's going to be towing around Rob Scuderi.

Lovejoy wasn't really bad here by any stretch of the imagination, but he has improved quite a bit with the Ducks.

Definitely left a lot to be desired in his own end. His offense is clearly NHL ready, but still could use experience on D in the AHL.

He wasn't bad, but he was nondescript and the consensus odd man out after guys like Bort and Engelland. The Pens system just didn't play to his strengths.

He looks smooth offensively but his defensive game is so bad.

I guess he is just 20 after all but wow, he needs a lot of education on how to play defense and I mean a lot.

On the other hand, Maataa is such a beauty. He will be a very good defender for a long time. I had take him over Hamilton myself.
