LD Darnell Nurse (2013, 7th, EDM)

Nurse was a tower of power tonight...logged huge minutes, had an assist, rang one off the post and kept McDavid in check (for the most part) the whole game...just a mean intimidating SOB

he was a horse out there...hopefully in a few years it translates to the NHL

I've seen DeAngelo and Bouramman both ranked ahead of Nurse by some SSM fans.
I don't mean to discredit him though, I just have my doubts as to how well his game will translate to the NHL.

I've heard people say smoking doesn't cause cancer. You haven't seen him play enough. As a Soo guy, I'm not basing this on last night. This assessment is based on his development over the course of his career. I gladly side with professionals who had him ranked as a top 10 prospect, than some 'sss fans'.

Seabrook isn't a bad comparison. Though I've only watched like a handful of games lol.

I don't see him as a #1 PP option in the NHL though.

I'm not sure what his offensive upside will be but he will be a shutdown type that can skate with anyone in the league as long as he controls his gap coverage. I would love to add Mike Green to our club so that he can handle the PP duties on the top unit so that guys like Nurse and Klefbom can be on the 2nd unit with Schultz assuming that Chia doesn't deal him.

If Nurse was a RD, he would literally be the perfect prospect in regards to the Oilers defensive needs. Nonetheless, as a LD he still will have a massive impact on the performance of the team in 2-3 years.

He's actually living up to the hype by Oiler fans. Hope he keeps it up

Well if he had a 100MPH slapper and could get it off quickly and accurately then I'd agree! ;)

That said I have no issue or regrets having Nurse and Klefbom as our anchors on the left side. Hell Darnell was playing both sides last night so I wouldn't rule out one of these guys moving to RD down the road if the roster requires it. They both have the speed and size to cover a lot of ice out there.

Love this **** starter.

Well presumably Schutlz will eventually learn or be the PP option. Not all dmen need to be PP guys and I think if you guys got Nurse to be anything like Seabrook, that is a huge gain already.

Good point, I didn't realize you were a Soo fan. In that case I should probably trust your opinion on this.

Does he remind anybody else of P.K? The big slapped last night, rushing the puck with enthusiasm and joining the play, starting **** with the other team. Playing aggressive(sometimes too much so). I don't know if he'll ever get to P.K.'s level, but he sure reminded me of him last night.

I see alot of PK/ Doughty in his game, save from the blue line down and their shots. But aggression (with and without puck) and skating ability forsure

I see Him As a Marc edouard Vlasic type of player in the NHL. I don't think he'll ever be a PP guy or great offensive D in general, he's instead going to an elite shutdown defender who will occasionally chip in offensively ala Vlasic or the old Girardi

Nurse is the much better skater but I don't think he has Seabrook's offensive IQ. To be honest I would be shocked if he became anything more than a 30-point D-man.

The last 4 full seasons 30 EVP ranks top 8 for Dmen.

I will take 25min a night and 30 EVP / season.

Klefbom under Nelson was 25min 30 EVP pace.

that is one heck of a left side going forward for Edmonton.

Marincin (23) - XXX
Klefbom (22) -XXX
Nurse (20) - XXX

People can debate his upside but it won't change the fact that Nurse is going to be one of the worst players to play against.

He is a 6'5 pest that can play a hard physical game. Every team wants a player like Nurse.

Like I said he should just work on his shot non-stop all summer long.

Seems like he has a good one already, but if he can elevate it to great and get it off quickly, he is going to cash in on a lot of goals on the Oiler PP with McDavid, RNH, Eberle, Hall, etc. all feeding him.
