Meanwhile, in Minnesota, four years of university is suddenly sounding very attractive to Brock Boeser.

Why. They'd have no problem signing him. His agent probably wants him to go pro now.

Wow. Yet guys like Delorme and Weisbrod have their jobs. Yup...definitely a return to the Old Boys Club. Edmonton did something similar when they kept all their old Oiler Heyday guys. We're doing it now with guys like Smyl, Linden, and Delorme, and Weisbrod being brought in because he was a good ol' boy in Boston and hired Benning's boy in Calgary.

actually that doesn't quite do it anymore. The proper emoticon going forward should now be:

This guy speaks for us now:

Ignoring whether or not I agree with the firings or not (which I don't), the timing is nine kinds of crazy as well. Seriously, you wait until 2/3 days after both the Draft and Free Agency to turf your Director of Player Personnel? (Crawford?) And the guy that manages your contracts and cap? (Gilman?)

Just...I don't even.

Change is good, we never won with those guys anyways.

I'm ready for change..

I honestly cant believe that in the space of one year, we became the Edmonton Maple Leafs. Each passing day makes me more and more depressed. Man, I just love being a Canucks fan...

This means that our capologist is the guy who engineered the Ryan O'Reilly offer sheet.

And our head scout is again unquestionably Ron Delorme.

Yep. :help:

And low and behold supporters still abound...though they get less and less with each move it seems. Almost like the moves aren't good or something.

Okay, NOW I'm done.

Just have to walk away. To hell with this.

It's been interesting to see your perspective change over the passed year.

You've had a very reasonable defense of both sides (pro and anti - Benning arguments), and to slowly see you wither is rather... depressing.

We'll soon all be together in these dark times.

What an idiot he fires Gilman. Gilman was a good AGM. Watch Weisbrod take over that position.

Bah who needs a fantastic capologist when your stated plan is all about 2016 free agency. Nope no way you might need someone to work some magic.

If you look at this as a broad comedy about buffoons in a position of management, running a sports franchise... it's actually really entertaining. Benning is at his funniest when he indulges on the silly-side delivered with a straight face.

I would watch this show. Like "In the thick of it" but sports.

Thank you Gilman for the 2011 cup run. I don't think it could have happened without the brilliant cap management you engineered.

Thank you Crawford for turning this franchise's drafting around in three short years using logic and sound reasoning.

THank you Henning for years of managing the farm teams (Burrows, Bieksa, Edler, Hansen, etc) ... good Utica run this year.

This is what people want. You have to have bad management to have a bad team. This gives us a reason to be last every year and get those No.1 Picks like The Oilers.

except benning bleeds draft picks like crazy

by the time we're truly bottoming out, we'll have nothing but pending UFA's we didn't flip at the trade deadline for picks because "that's a bad message to send to the locker room when you're making a playoff push". we'll have no picks to rebuild with. it's disgusting.

Or the reasons behind them are difficult to see for the particular brand of hyper, stat-picking, "moneypuck" fans that frequent forums like this.

Benning's decisions are deeply rooted in an understanding of the inner workings of hockey, an autonomous region of unique cause and effect relationships that stats, commentary and corporate spiel can only allude to; true understanding comes from people like Benning and Desjardins who have lived the game their whole lives.

Definitely a difficulty to process for fans bred on the depthless surface gleen of guys like Gillis and Gilman. No wonder they loved most of their moves and hate Benning's.

One of these guys has a Cup.

I feel like I'm to blame since I called in to the 1040 midday show and called for Gillman to take over for Benning :(

Tbh Gillman probably wanted to leave after negotiating all these awesome contracts and then has the Sbisa/Dorrsett extensions done over his head

I'm pretty much done with this team until we have competent management

Hey, do we get a third rounder if someone hires Gillman? Because, technically, that would make this one of Bennings better returns in the offseason.

It's official, we have taken the torch from the Edmonton Oilers for biggest joke of a franchise in the NHL.
