Well that's an incredibly short sighted definition of "Draft Depth". There is far more to a draft than the top 10 - 20 picks and where the top tiers drop off.

It's not short-sighted at all. It's realistic.

By the time you're into the 3rd and 4th round, the percentage of players who even manage to carve out an actual career of any kind (hitting 100GP), even as just "depth players", is somewhere in that 10-15% range in pretty much every draft. The percentage of players who become impact guys from those rounds is firmly in the small single digits...in every draft.

Talking about "Depth" of a draft in that range is just spitting in the wind. It's completely nonsense. If anyone actually knew these "depth of the draft" guys in the 3rd and 4th rounds were going to hit...they'd take 'em over dozens of players right up into the 1st round where less than three quarters of those guys will ever even hit the threshold of long-term player of any kind. But they don't, because that's not how the mid rounds of the draft work, at all.

It's just not a way that is remotely viable to characterize a draft. You talk about the elite talent at the top, the depth of "Top-10" type prospects, and how many "1st round caliber" prospects there are in general. Trying to predict "depth" anywhere beyond that is just delusion, or scouts smelling too many of their own farts.

There's a "world" where next year, the Leafs could go forward with Matthews, Schenn and Minten as their top 3 Cs and not be in gross need of a massive upgrade.

On the flip side, for Laughton, here's a guy who's never scored 20 goals in a season, with a career high of 43 points. An ideal 3rd line C, but not exactly the guy you want jumping up the lineup in case of injury.
Not worth a first

Never thought much about this player. Dime a dozen player it seams
Correct. He is not an answer to any teams 3rd line center spot problem. He is a solid player who is better off on the wing. He plays almost 15 minutes a night on a poor flyers team. Will another team play him more than that?

According to Dreger action is starting to swirl around Laughton.

I wonder if there is more then Laughton getting traded.

There was talk of a Laughton/Risto package but another guy I'd Target is Garnett Hathaway.

IF the trade was to involve a 1 or prospect equal to a one then it would not be out of the question to have a Hathaway/Seeler type player included with Laughton. Hathaway a 4th liner you would love come playoff time. At 2.4 for Hathaway next year would be the question for some teams I would think.

I would suspect there would be retention on one of Laughton or Hathaway probably Hathaway.

All I can tell you for sure is I'll take Hathaway on my 4th line over Reaves.

I am not even a Reaves hater but Hathaway would make our bottom 6 better

If it was a Hathaway Laughton combo then the leafs are giving rid of a bad contract in the deal like Reeves.

Risto is the player more likely to be retained to get full value.

I don’t think including a Hathaway type would stop a deal, even if salary comes back.
To clarify.
I get to acquire a 1/first round level prospect for Laugfhton if the Flyers had to include a Hathaway or a Seeler. Not a dump of hathaway at all as he does serve a role. BUTTTTT in Toronto's case salary would have to come back. Kampf, Reeves whomever.

He's probably trolling, but...

AN NHL player took the time to make a photo like that and post it?!?

I thought it was fake. But it seems to be true. Which is kinda nuts...and I have no idea what he's doing, but maybe he is getting traded?

Unless you can make a photo like that easy with an app, who knows, I have no idea if the Last Supper option is normal these days. I'm a Sigma, above that behaviour.

P.S. The painting above the fireplace is Group of Seven-ish, but I don't immediately recognize it. I guess Laughton likes it...so do I. Props.

Hathaway definitely still has value. The contract is less than ideal but there’s only 1 year left after this one and the cap increase this summer has to go somewhere.

The Leafs could use some sandpaper in their lineup (Reaves is a massive liability) and Hathaway is skilled enough that he can chip in with some timely goals in the course of a playoff run.

I’d question whether the return will be worth it to the flyers though, as Torts seems to look at Hathaway as one of the “culture setting” players for the Flyers

The sens have changed GM and staff but apparently are still interested for like the 5th year in a row.

Sounds like someone throwing blank at the wall.
