You want to pull for a local kid like Scott BUT we can all see he is near washed up .. he just can't skate like he used too .. like i said from day 1 of trade it is ok to go get Scott but no way in h*ll do you give up a 1st round pick for him .. if we gave a a 3rd rounder maybe even a late 2nd rounder and a prospect ok .. but any hockey guy especially a pro scout should have known you pass on a 1st rounder for Scott TODAY .. 4 years ago sure you do it .. but not TODAY .. bottom line he likely does not even crack our lineup next season so he will cost us $500,000 on CAP .. it is really disappointing for team .. bottom line Holmberg brings much more to our 3rd line lineup with his speed .. in fact I am not sure if Scott even cracks our post season dance card on 4th line .. watching Kampf last night makes me think i like him better then Scott .. i can't see this deal as anything but a backup in case of injury for playoffs .. omg it makes me mad to think of loss of a 1st rounder for this guy .. what a colossal screw up of epic proportions

Hateburger and Fries is what you eat -

In defense of Scott Laughton

Your Mom has been calling you all afternoon to come up from the basement and eat your lunch. You take a break from posting on every social media outlet and hockey messageboard about how much you hate Scott Laughton. Instead of your usual grease feast, she makes you a salad and a cheese and cucumber sandwich (crusts cut off). You say "Mom, what the f*** is this?" She politely responds: "My dear. I've noticed that you've been spending an unhealthy amount of time posting about Scott Laughton on HFboards, X, and even Bluesky. You need to eat healthy, and feel healthy. You can't just eat hateburgers and fries every day prior to the trade deadline." You're blood starts to boil: "Mom! What is this healthy shit? Don't give me this unless I say it's ok. I'm going back downstairs to order takeout, and I have to finish posting Scott Laughton's advanced stats as a Leaf. The guy f***in sux! By the way Mom, what's for dinner tonight?" Mom says disappointingly "Your usual: veal cutlets and baked ziti".

Just took a snack break. Hoping he turns into Bryan Trottier within the next month.

Very well put. This. Grebenkin will maybe be a middle 6 winger someday but Laughton, up until this trade was a 3C now for a team that could use more centre depth.

If Toronto did nothing at the deadline, they’d be even angrier.

Who cares? Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make. Also, you shouldn't be looking towards the media and the fans for validation when running a franchise, though to be fair some fans would run the team better than the current front office... I mean many of us said trading for Scott Rotten was a big mistake.

I love how hate equates to wisdom. The more you hate Laughton, the more you deserve to graduate from HF and become a scout for the Leafs.

Not too long ago people were going nuts when they signed OEL. Now it's just silly nonsense with Laughton. People are so emotional that they wildly label Grebenkin as a "Blue Chip Prospect". Lol.

In the series of games that Grebenkin had with the Leafs he looked like a fantastic energy player. In the series of games hardened vet Scott Rotten has played for us he has directly cost us 4 points. Scott Rotten is barely a functional NHL player. He sucks. He clearly doesn't want to be here, and he should be a prime buyout candidate for the off season. Complete waste of a roster spot. Kampf and Holmberg are superior and should not be taken out of the line up for this Philly trash castaway.

Seems like Tre and his scouts are NOT good at evaluating forward skills, as much as they are great at identifying defenseman.

Tanev, OEL, Carlo, Myers have all been solid adds and his only FA forward add was a perfect grinder in Lorentz.

When it comes to getting middle/top six talent, he seems to struggle or so he has shown so far with us, considering we sent a sizable package for Laughton who seems to be a dud personified. He still has 11 games to gain traction, but if anyone with sense on our forward group knew that we needed to:

1. Get a PROPER 3C, not a 3LW cosplaying as 3C
2. Get a deal done EARLIER (less urgency and less reason to spend assets just to say you got someone by deadline)
3. If a 2C/3C are too expensive or don't exist, pivot and get a solid 3LW/RW like Tanev, Zetterlund, Gourde, Bjorkstrand etc.

Domi as we know it, is a fine 3C when HE wants to be, and to insulate his woes as a 3C you get a proper winger for him, since Robertson can't do crap alone on that line and clearly Laughton can't either (so far).

I would totally have been okay with going for a package like Frost and Farabee instead, two 25 year old centre wingers with speed and skills. Much better than Laughton on paper.

Tanev cost a 2nd pick for a rental tanev
gourde ( who had similar production than laughton) and a 5,4M (higher cap hit of laughton+ Carlo) winger cost 2 1st and a 2nd

Farabee alone have same cap hit than laughton AND Carlo

Sure if you only watching player and don't look at cap hit or term...that's doesn't make sense at all.

I agree and hope Scott turns around. But like other posters said, Scott turning around only means he is a capable 3C.

To make me feel more positive, I look at Scott at bringing the best out of Holmberg, Calle and Kampf. As he creates competition for them to go hard every shift or they will be sitting in the press box, lol.

Regardless of what posters on here say, Laughton sucks balls. The stats say it, the eye test says it, it is a fact until he plays better.

I literally never heard of anyone say that until he looked like crap on the ice.

And some of the best trades absolutely are the ones you never make but when you’re in a division of teams loaded up, in the middle of your cup window about to possibly lose a top player, you have to go for it. Teams in win now mode like Tampa, Florida, the Avs or even the leafs need not to worry about asset management over all else at that point.

I still think he can play a 3C role and add grit and locker room presence. Clearly what they’re doing is failing miserably so they have to try something. This team is desperate

I have a dream that one day every man, woman, and child of Leafs Nation shall be exhalted drinking from the glory of the Lord Stanley's Cup.

It's mindboggling Treliving took a look at Laughton and said to himself "there's a quality 3C... better trade a 1st and prospect for him". Almost makes you want to cry it's so dumb. This is bordering on a sports crime.

I swear if ML$Epr hadn't already threatened me with harassment charges I'd be giving them such a hard time on Facebook and Twitter right now.

Successful NHL franchises are able identify quality pro players and trade for them at reasonable cost. And they get the results they deserve. But not this one, oh no, not ML$E.

And they get the results they deserve too.

Being a Leafs fan is like a being in a religion. We all hope and pray every day things will get better. We just don't expect it to happen until after we're dead is all.

One thing's for sure is the Leafs are never gonna reach the promised land with Treliving making trades like these.
Every team, including the greats swing and miss from time to time. I am sure TB would love to have the Jeanott trade back.

This trade has started out awful for the Leafs, but if they somehow win the Cup in the next two years with him in the lineup it will be forgotten.

Always a chance Grebs and the first rounder pan out to be nothing as well.

Way too early to say the trade is a disaster, although not too early to think it was an overpay

I'll give myself a little pat on the back for this one:

I'll give myself a little pat on the back for this one:

Did you predict that Laughton would struggle with the change of scenery? Do you know which player can arrive at a new team and fit in, and which one cannot?

His career high in goals is 18. Did you think that Tre foolishly thought Laughton would go on a 8 goal streak?

Fans here were going nuts because Laughton was a target, but I think they expected Tre was going to make a serious run for Crosby. I mean I suppose you can spend your days pretending there's no salary cap.

I think people worry way too much about this kind of thing. The Avalanche massively overpaid for Brock Nelson, far worse than any other trade that was made at the deadline, but I doubt most of their fans care.

A lot of us didn't like Laughton when we were connected to him, the guy was playing LW and his underlying stats were God awful and he was going to be our 3C? I can remember saying if he isn't doing that job in Philly how's it going to work here?

He hasn't scored a goal for what? 20-25 games? I'm not asking for a goal a game but half a point a game seems fair and he's done nothing to suggest he's close to capable of that

There were plenty of guys available, with all kinds of different cap hits and abilities so you making up complete bull**** like we were expecting Sydney ******* Crosby because we didn't like or want Laughton when there were other options available is a joke
