I don't care how you digest it. I am here to defend Laughton. How good is anyone playing 10 min. mostly on the 4th line?

I don't see these as conspiracies. There is no secret plan to do something harmful to fans.

Laughton doesn’t need your defending. He needs to figure his shit out.

Part of the problem with Laughton is we paid a Brayden Schenn price for a Calle Jarnkrok level player. That’s a sunk cost that will just have to be swallowed.

The give Laughton time talking point is specious. He’s played himself out of the intended role. That’s his own fault. The fact that he needs to work his way back to vanilla and invisible is why he’s being slammed. He comes from a bad team and he has no idea what to do on a playoff team.

Give him a break, it takes weeks and perhaps even months to figure out how to do things like pick up the wide open shooter in the slot or hit players on the other team.

He made a beautiful pass on the weekend I think it was and the recipient failed to bury it. Other than that not much to write home about so far for what they have given up to get him.

If I were Tre I would tell him not to get too settled in the GTA because he’s outta here this summer.

His Leaf timeline is basically a dozen or more regular season games and 4-7 in the playoffs.

"Specious"? How else do you explain it. The guy flat out forgot how to play hockey when he got here?

No, it’s faulty reasoning that he’ll find his level given time and patience. But he’s not actually a very impactful player to begin with. So when all the dust is settled he might be an unremarkable player who gives you an ulcer every game. There’s very limited upside there.

Imagine saying that to a player on your team.

Thank god you are not in charge of anything.

Also assuming the leafs will lose? Why do you even cheer for this team if it causes you this much stress and aggravation?

Maybe take a year off?

That was part of my defense: his career highs are 43, 39, and 32. These are not great stats. He's going to go through long stretches of not scoring. I never expected him to have 4 points at this time. Leaf fans shouldn't expect a lot. He might be struggling now. He also might not have been put in his proper role yet. Is he killing penalties yet?

He's industrious, 2-way, defensive, and feisty. More known throughout his career at being more of a Winger.

I think there's more here. I think that there is something murky right now. He should be allowed to still find his footing.

You mentioned Jarnkrok earlier and I think you should measure Laughton with him. So far he has 3 points more than Laughton, but with 13 min. a night of ice time.

People are maybe hoping he’s going to find his next level for the playoffs

I think this is who he is. A marginal NHLer at this point and this was never going to end well

He was worth a 4th round pick at most.

Severe overpayment. Good for Briere for fleecing the leafs. Hopefully it’s a learning moment for Tre lol

This is version 9 of the same storyline, not incumbent on me to have a good attitude about a flunky core that can’t get their damn act together and have minimal playoff success.

As far as Laughton goes, I stand by it. You come in here and can’t even do a passing job, don’t be here.

I think he’s just been exposed for being an okay player on a bad team to being more or less useless on a playoff team looking for positive playoff impact. The first problem is he’s miscast and the second one is he hasn’t shown up to work capable of doing the job.

The problem is we paid quite a premium to do something, anything and he was not a correct target by pro scouting. JFJ as lousy as he was would have probably paid a 2nd pick for this guy and that would have been bad enough.

Imagine arguing that an already mediocre, fringe NHLer will go back to his mean production lol... This guy sucks. I can't stand his sour face. Does he even wanna be here? Did MLSE trade for this guy because he was a huge proponent of Pride night? Or did they actually send out scouts to watch this bum (doubtful)?

This is what happens when you let the media dictate the direction of your team... He was on TSN's Top 5 targets, now the sports pundits will complain how the Leafs blew this trade... Typical lying press.

Which one of these staffers watches TSN and proposes TSN's top 5 to Treliving?

What are you talking about? Do you know what a pro scout actually does?

It's gonna be a masterclass when Tre picks up a 3rd rounder for him in the offseason

Still early, and been trying to give these new players time to fit in, but man he's been bad...

If you're using a 1st at the deadline, you need to bring in a player that's an actual upgrade on somebody on your team. We were supposed to be targeting a 3C upgrade, and not only does it seem like we didn't get that, I'm struggling to justify even having him in a healthy top 12 forwards. He doesn't even bring a specialised skillset (like Lafferty's speed, Acciari's physicality, etc) that we could exploit for a certain role, like past depth additions that cost a fraction of what we paid for Laughton. He's just... there.

If you think you're gonna get Schenn for a late pick in 3 year, you're dreaming. Nelson who having similar stats 17 goal 47 pts vs 23 goal 49 pts and he cost a 1stand cowan for a rental player and you think STL would gave up Schenn for only a 1st

just 2 player who had been a deception right after TDL...hagel just got 7 pts in 22 game, a 26 pts season rate... Basically the same kind of production than robertson for the price tampa paid...

coleman 0 pts in 9 game

some player are able to adapt quickly to an new team and some player need time and it's pretty random, you just can't predict.

Last game vs Nashville we saw an evolution on his game. He just need to still progressing on the 12 game remaining and we will really see what he can bring

Well everyone knows that where the Leafs are concerned, nothing matters except the playoffs- that’s the only faint hope we have now - that he somehow figures it out then.

For now though good grief, if he had been just a waiver wire pickup he might well have already been benched or sent to the Marlies.

You’d think trading a 2nd 3rd 7th for Jarnkrok would have been the learning moment not to spend premium picks on vanilla bottom 6 plugs.
