TSN and SN had this guy in the top 5. This guy is hardly a NHL player so it begs to question who were the scouts? What about the tv scouts?

I am guilty of going with the flow and trusting them. Don't I look stupid but then again, this isn't my job and it certainly is the job of the GM and other staff to give good data before a decision is made.

Don't think he's bad as he appears to be. He'll eventually find his game

He's not good as advertised or bad as he has shown..he's somewhere in the middle

Many flyers fans are saying he was nothing more than a glorified 4th liner on a bad team dating back the past 2-3 seasons

Live and learn :)

Never trust the mediots ….there agenda is to get clicks and cause a stir. Their opinions are no better than here. In fact there are posters here who have more knowledge about NHL players than those fools.

Top 5 ….thats too funny. I havent listen to those guys on SN or TSN in years.

Laughton was just a very bad trade.
We needed a center and got a 4th line winger who should be AHL bound like most of the bottom six IMHO :)

I’m just waiting for that a-ha moment where I see what this guy can offer. After 10% of a season, I see NOTHING. Even John Kordic, part of one of the worst trades in Leafs history, offered something. He doesn’t skate well, doesn’t hit, can’t score, has made boneheaded defensive errors, etc. Who the hell are the scouts that said this guy is a 3C? Even Flyer fans say he is a glorified 4 th line winger and Berube agrees. For a 1st round pick +? Ultimate incompetence by Treliving.

He played 3 minutes a period and was a minus 2 he wasn’t fine. At the end of 2 he had the lowest toi @ 6:33 so he wasn’t squeezed out in the 3rd, he played his avg. what you see is what we get don’t expect anything more.
Generated a grade A chance, good on the pk, the callback, physical.
Baby step in the right direction.

It was a desperate move to appease the mediots and fans.

Tre hasn’t been a great GM and Berube style is ruining the enjoyment of watching them play in the regular season.

We are older, slower and have very few prospects and assets. Imagine if Dubas didn’t find Knies and McMann.

Tre did make some good trades too. Carlo was a nice add but it’s another player being tried to babysit Rielly. I like Tanev too but how long will he play at this level? Father time catches everyone.

Laughton is another player leaf fans thought would be a great addition….and it just seems again just like what Dubas did, Why keep on doing wasting valuable assets on bums who can’t play in the top six if needed and to make matters worse with Laughton the guy can’t play center.

We have a player on the marlies that can play wing and score. We didn’t need another winger.

And Domi again gets a pass because he had a few games he played hard and then disappears most of the season. I will never understand why Tre ever resigned him. Didn’t he look at his past teams?

I was really hoping a change would push this team in the right direction but it’s safe to say that this team is just messed up.

We get outshot , out played …out skated a lot . We rely on our goalies to win the game for us.

The Berube system is terrible for our star players and we don’t have the bottom six to help.

Laughton is just another Domi but can’t skate. Can’t play center or generate any offence.

it’s sad when Lorentz is your most exciting player in the bottom six and you could get rid of the rest for a bag a pucks and not miss a beat.

But hey….we are tougher….we punish the D with our dump and chase….etc 🤣 haha

Last night was just another game showing us it doesn’t matter how bad the opposition is…..against us you are always in the game. We are the confidence boosters for the opposition :)

Laughton is another wasted 1st rd pick we threw away. IMHO

I

I liked the Carlo deal a fair bit more than the Laughton deal. The Laughton deal was a classic Cliff Fletcher “I have to do something and mortgage the future” kind of move.

Philly isn't a team I watch often. When I have seen Laughton play with the Flyers, he's never stood out too much.

He's not particularly skilled with the puck or a nifty playmaker or anything. Nor does he have a big shot. My impression was that he's basically a heart-and-soul type of grinder who can bang in some pucks and be defensively sound. Saying he's a glorified fourth liner seems like an exaggeration for a guy who's scored about 40 points a couple of times. Maybe it's more accurate to say he's a mediocre third liner (when he's on). Definitely doesn't seem like a guy who can move the needle, but perhaps he can be useful if he can find his game.

I do think if he had been awarded a goal on that deflection that it could have been a big goal and could have put TOR on the path to a sure win... but what can ya do...

He needs to be moved this offseason for a second rounder or something. Cut losses and re-coup something that can be spent at the next TDL. We can’t walk this guy to free agency as his game is so low impact it’s not worth the carrying cost.

He was also on for Bunting's PP GA, where he just stood around and watched him score. That's his third PKGA in a little over 11 minutes of PK time since joining the team.

afaik this game was the first time he was above 50% in possession or xG, but if you're going to be on for 3GA, it's something of a Pyrrhic victory. Nice high stick tip on the not-goal though.

Marner was the reason for that goal our guys cant seem to stay dialed in for long periods of time

Paying a 1st for this guy is turning out to be worse than paying a first for Foligno, which is something I never thought would be topped.
You cannot tell me we couldn't have acquired a better 3C for that price, absolutely no way in hell.

We traded for a 4th line LW that is struggling to kill a penalty. I wake up every day wishing this wasn't so but with every passing game... it is very much so. He is basically Dewar.

We’re just awful at trading for forwards at the TDL. For whatever reason in this era we always go for a low-skilled grit grinder who supposedly has the necessary intangibles to help this core over the hump. And they never do. The best was O’Reilly and while he came with more offensive punch he still played an elevated style of that game.

Defensemen however at the TDL have been knocked out of the park. Muzzin, Giordano, McCabe, now Carlo. Even Schenn was great.

Laughton is at the level of like Blackwell. At least Boyle and Plekanec actually played centre and Acciari was a pinball and racked up hits. Even while Lafferty was pretty bad he was fast so he excelled at something. Also, NONE OF THOSE GUYS COST A 1ST+ BY THEMSELVES!

The only thing Laughton is above average at is faceoff win percentage, and that doesn’t matter if Berube won’t play him at centre.

It’s on both Berube and Laughton to figure this out. The price is paid, he’s here. The team has to find a way to integrate him into the lineup if only so we have a bottom six that works.

It’s hard to believe That for 2 1sts and 2 good young prospects, Trev couldn’t have brought in a better player at the Trade deadline
For that kind of money we should have brought In 2 defence men instead like wtf 2 right shots ship benoit out drop rielly to third pair problem solved

Worst Trade in TML history. Absolutely useless player. Most good teams spend their precious high end draft capital on high end players, the fact that it was used on a "third line center" is inexcusable.
