Gave us 9:52 tonight and minus 2. 4th got squeezed out trailing in the third obviously. It was funny listening to Cuthbert ponder about them being able to be a shut down line. Lorentz immediately forced a pass.. Mccabe pinched with no one covering and they gave up an odd man rush goal.

Laughton comes from a bad program and doesn't offer very much to a playoff team.

He had a good night tonight.
I wish he had a few points, and no black cloud over him, but tonight he was fine.
He played 3 minutes a period and was a minus 2 he wasn’t fine. At the end of 2 he had the lowest toi @ 6:33 so he wasn’t squeezed out in the 3rd, he played his avg. what you see is what we get don’t expect anything more.

once X games have passed and he’s settled in and confident or whatever, what are the things he’s supposed to be doing better than the guys on the other team? Is he shutting guys down, grinding them into dust on the forecheck, running a sheltered scoring line..?

He did show a bit of offensive flair with the tip and a nice dish to Lorentz, but yeah, overall he's not improving. He honestly looks a half-step slow out there, which is most worrying to me. Even if things aren't going well, he should at least be able to keep up with Lorentz and Kampf.

I guess we see things differently. I saw him duck he was holding his stick high the puck inadvertently hit it and went in. Good play…

And it’s only getting faster with playoffs.

A first n greb for a player that we have 13 players better than doesn’t jarnkrok play center ? Ffs minten had a way better impact on the game as an under cooked rookie
Once Berube finds out what Laughton is (which is a good puck retriever winger) people are going to be surprised with what he can do. He was a 40 point player player with Philly. If we put him with Tavares and Marner I think he is back to 40 + points and maybe even a tick up playing with elite talent. He’s on the 4th line right now it’s not shocking he isn’t producing.

Domi-Matthews-Nylander - playmaker, shooter, line driver
Laughton-Tavares-Marner - grinder, shooter, playmaker
Knies-Holmberg-McMann - power, possession, shooter

Laughton should just go back to 3rd line center because that's what we got him for. I'm not opposed to putting Domi back with Matthews or on the 2nd line, but Knies needs to be on the top two lines because he's been really good most of the time playing top line minutes and it makes no sense putting him with less talented players and cutting his time being on the 3rd line when he's been doing everything we've asked of him and he's upped his offense as well.

Knies right now has more goals and total points than Laughton's best season in his entire career. Just give Laughton a few more minutes as 3rd line center and see how it goes.

Philly fans have said that Laughton is a much better winger than he is a center, and the analytics support that claim. He just isn't a good center.

If they put him on the wing, he can actually be a pretty useful player.

Ffs bonehead coach so jarnkrok goes in the middle why trade for him then like we grossly overpaid

Then what was the point of trading for Laughton if the Leafs were supposedly looking for a 3rd line center and ended up trading good assets for a 3rd line winger with limited offense?? As someone else said in that case you could've just played Grebenkin and get almost the same result or bring back in Jarnkrok.

Better yet don't trade Minten and give him a good run at 3C and see if he couldn't handle it. He certainly couldn't be any worse than Laughton right now and if Minten works out then you already solved your 3C issue without having to send assets out for one that now we're saying isn't a good center and hence defeating the purpose of the trade to begin with.

He had 18 goals and 43 points in 2022-23, 39 points in 2023-24, and was on pace for 37 points over 82 games this season with Philly prior to the trade.

He has zero right now. Do you think it's more likely that he is a 35-40 point player or a 0-point player?

It's been a tough go, but they'll find a line that works for him and he will contribute. He didn't forget how to play hockey.

I'd try him with Tavares and McMann to see if they can get the cycle game going.

Knies-Matthews-Marner
Robbie-Domi-Nylander
Laughton-J.T-McMann

Def swap Robertson and Laughton if you go down this path, but the idea was to get a 3rd line center….

We didn’t pay this price for Laughton the winger

He actually has zero points in his last 13 games and a -9 over that span if you include his time with Flyers:

It was a desperate move to appease the mediots and fans.

Tre hasn’t been a great GM and Berube style is ruining the enjoyment of watching them play in the regular season.

We are older, slower and have very few prospects and assets. Imagine if Dubas didn’t find Knies and McMann.

Tre did make some good trades too. Carlo was a nice add but it’s another player being tried to babysit Rielly. I like Tanev too but how long will he play at this level? Father time catches everyone.

Laughton is another player leaf fans thought would be a great addition….and it just seems again just like what Dubas did, Why keep on doing wasting valuable assets on bums who can’t play in the top six if needed and to make matters worse with Laughton the guy can’t play center.

We have a player on the marlies that can play wing and score. We didn’t need another winger.

And Domi again gets a pass because he had a few games he played hard and then disappears most of the season. I will never understand why Tre ever resigned him. Didn’t he look at his past teams?

I was really hoping a change would push this team in the right direction but it’s safe to say that this team is just messed up.

We get outshot , out played …out skated a lot . We rely on our goalies to win the game for us.

The Berube system is terrible for our star players and we don’t have the bottom six to help.

Laughton is just another Domi but can’t skate. Can’t play center or generate any offence.

it’s sad when Lorentz is your most exciting player in the bottom six and you could get rid of the rest for a bag a pucks and not miss a beat.

But hey….we are tougher….we punish the D with our dump and chase….etc 🤣 haha

Last night was just another game showing us it doesn’t matter how bad the opposition is…..against us you are always in the game. We are the confidence boosters for the opposition :)

Laughton is another wasted 1st rd pick we threw away. IMHO

I

Don’t think Berube is really helping Laughton adjust, playing with a black hole like Kampf isn’t very ideal for someone who was suppose to add some offence from the bottom six.

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Laughton - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Domi - Jarnkrok
Lorentz - Kampf - Holmberg

I would run with this lineup for a couple games, see if Laughton can get up to speed and play within this system. We need him to figure his shit out and be useful in the playoffs.

I would also separate Matthews and Marner, they seem to play and actually give a shit when they’re not on the same line. But that doesn’t seem like it’ll happen for whatever reason.

Such a nothing player, his name took on a life of its own on this forum for whatever reason. Shades of Sam Lafferty, but even Lafferty was more useful than this guy.

I hated the price paid from day one and hate it even more now. Foligno levels of trade hate.
