With Philly stinking the bed for several yrs now. How can we really judge our new 3rd line center? He has character and is a very good PK . His offensive numbers may improve here as he will have easier matchups?

They liked him for awhile so maybe they think they can get more production from him

People here was agree to giving up as high than 8M for a 50 pts Sam Bennett but a guy playing the same exact way recording 40 pts/ season at 1,5M should not be good enough to have an pretty nice impact on the team?

Along with offensive help, I’m hopeful that Laughton will bring more “dog” out of Domi. He’s been kind of muted this season and hasn’t been as aggressive as he was last year. When he was with Bertuzzi they were good for some chaos on the ice. With Robertson playing more aggressive too the third line could be a pain to play against.

but decent first game

I think we were watching different games or different players, he was absolute horse***t tonight.

Stop trading first rounders unless you are absolutely a legit cup contender that needs one more player to push them over the top. The leafs are not evening in the top 7 teams as a legit cup contender

Another waste of a huge asset for a 3rd line player. What a joke

The following teams have a much better chance of winning the cup this year

Colorado
Florida
Tampa
Dallas
Washington
Winnipeg
Edmonton

All of those teams are better and the leafs are not playing that great right now and their top player is a shell of his former self
I said this after the deadline and we were exposed badly tonight. They were all over us

Just one game, but yeah, he was bad, our worst player tonight. Made some very poor reads defensively, and didn’t do much offensively. But it’s just one game, I’ll give him a lot more time than that to form an opinion.

On the flip side, I quite liked Carlo tonight, a steady defensive presence who is very disruptive with his reach.

He's the middling player like Domi and Jarnkrok except plays a harder physical game .. He's slight upgrade at the #3C spot over Domi and Jarnkrok but I wouldn't be shocked to see him spot some shifts on the wing alongside Tavares or even Matthews.

Yeah I think he’s marginally better than what they have and it’s not really worth it.

Absolutely useless. Hope he is booed outta town. Imagine wasting a First and Good prospect for a guy that tops out as a third line center. Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make. Grebenkin is exactly the type of player this team needs more of.

Nowhere to go but up, however I don't get what he brings to the table that would help this team so much that was worth spending a 1st and Grebenkin on him. Not great offensively, don't think he's known to be a great defensive shut down guy either so what was the point of bringing him here rather than just keeping Minten instead and playing him either this year or next?

People keep talking about Minten's lack of offense, but is he really that much worse than Laughton offensively? Maybe just send that 1st and Grebenkin to Boston if you still wanted Carlo and don't do the Laughton deal and keep Minten instead.

Curious to see how we deploy the bottom 6. Assuming we'll start with

Laughton - Domi - Jarn
Holm - Kamp - Lorentz

Robertson, Patches swap in as needed?

I guess they could force Laughton up and roll a scoring third line with McMann - Domi - Robertson and a defensive 4th line

I think you might be ahead of the curve projecting Laughton as a winger but they are going to give this a real go at center. I just think they have to avoid putting him in a shut down role.

The reports that Laughton is better at wing then center are scary but I think if we use him with Nylander in a two-way role that could help him. When he played center with Konecny they had a 59 gf % although in a limited sample size. There’s some indication that if he has a good winger on his line he can be productive at center and he’s done well taking the majority of the defensive zone draws in Philly. I do think Laughton + Domi together is asking for trouble though. He needs a good winger with him to drive play. They need to balance this out imo for this to work.

I’d run with this for playoffs

Knies - Matthews - Domi
Patches - Tavares - Marner
McMann - Laughton - Nylander
