Ivankovic is an undersized goalie, so when he’s down in the butterfly it leaves him vulnerable for high shots. Which is exactly what happened on the Latvia goal that tied it 2-2.

On the first Latvia goal, he was overcommitted to the shooter and slow to react to the pass across.
He never saw it yet.

Unless someone is a total jerk, they’re usually gonna say some nice things about them. Everyone will give vague praise about shaping attitudes and what have you.
Pretty much this. It's part lip service and part a job of any coach hired from outside that system - he has to bring in his energy/attitude and his knowledge. I think in this regard Hartley is no different than others. And frankly, as far as on-ice performance, I thought Nolan's "play the same way against everyone" attitude was as evident as during Hartley's days.

Canada played bad and if we had even one player of the NHL guys on the team it would have been a wash, but still good on Latvia to take it when they were offered a gift

Well, you're both saying the same thing.

It was Ted Nolan who brought that can-do winning mentality with him. He was inspiring and a breath of fresh air. It started with him, took hold with Hartley and it has been ingrained in our philosophy since then. These kids truly believe they can beat everyone, they are not afraid and they are relentless in their efforts. You love to see it.

That belief in yourself and confidence is what lacked before, so Hartley has definitely helped shape and channel things in the right direction.

You're terrible at reading people.

I said wow that was quite an excessive celebration and you started taking personal shots. That, objectively, was an excessive celebration for winning a game that might not even matter.
Obviously for a Canadian - the only games that merit real celebration are pretty much just finals to you guys. Latvia is such a great hockey nation, lovely people, lovely fans, lovely grit. God, let them celebrate! It's not every day they beat Canada in a tournament where almost all the best players are eligible, not every year, not every decade.

They didn’t even celebrate that hard. They met the shooter, they met the goalie which is what happens every shootout win. They gave a few jump ups and were I guess a bit more happy than typical in the national anthem but why wouldn’t they be? Divine is just in his own feelings.

While we are at it and you are clearly making shit up... you said 38 years since we started a 17 year old and then reference 1999. So I am about done with your crap.

1987 was the last time a 17yr old kid started in net for Canada.

1999 was the last time a 17yr old kid played in net for Canada.

you can’t possibly be blaming him. And undersized? Linards Felbergs and Ivankovic are the same size. lol. Both were great especially in the shootout. This is on the players in front of him. Plain and simple.

Goodnight sweet Prince Latvia. You are about to be put to sleep in Ottawa.

Canada 10-0.

On a good note.. Latvia has made 2 of their last 3 quarters here which is exceptional. They've been in and out of this tournament the last decade but finally found solid footing and are hitting quarters. Very encouraging. This is also a super young team. They are built for next year if they can stay in main pool. The Germany game is their Superbowl and I'm guessing will be an amazing match!
I will admit I thought this prediction would age better than it did.

Unless the starter has a terrible game, I would NEVER go with the back up goalie in a short tournament like this. Especially when the back up is a 17yr old kid.

It's a recipe for disaster especially because it's such a short tournament. Fatigue in terms of both injuries and performance would play a major role in the games that matter the most. It's certainly not worth it just because you have like 1/100 chance to drop a meaningless (relatively speaking) game against Latvia.

Should have kept Yakemchuk. Offence from defence is huge and missing.

Grown ass on men da interweb bullying kids playing for their national team is such a weird thing.
It’s not the players’ faults. It’s those who selected the team who should be embarrassed. Clearly leaving players like Yakemchuk off the club was a huge mistake.

Doesn't help that the staff is using a dominant offensive defensemen as a 6th-7th defense first player.

Why some of you guys need to cope this hard? It makes you look extremely bad. How about for once just giving gg's to Latvia and let them have this moment.
