Instead they ran their RB for no reason and maybe hurt him.

Then instead of burning more time, they scored fast so the Broncos have tons of time and a timeout.

That's why you kneel it on 1st down. You avoid any chance of injury or fumble. Denver calls a timeout. Then you kneel it twice more and call a timeout with 2 seconds left. Then kick the 25 yard FG to win and this entire Broncos drive never happens.
