So, it's official, and they've released the expansion rules. No surprises AFAIK:

https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-expansion-draft-rules/c-281010592?tid=281011650

1) Protect 7F, 3D, 1G, or 8(F+D) and 1G. From a Bruins perspective, the former option's better.

2) NMC means you must protect. I don't think the weaker NTCs mean you're required to protect. I think this means Seidenberg could be put up.

3) You need 3 or more years experience to be drafted. No 1st-2nd year pros. So, Pasta needs protection. Vatrano is protected automatically. (I think?)

4) Must expose 1D and 2F who played 40 games last year, or an avg of 35 games/year over 2 years.

5) Must expose 1G under contract.

6) Contracts with career-ending injuries can't count as exposure.

Also of note, our new schedule matrix basically does take the two "bonus" in-division games and puts them against Vegas. So we now play 4x against the Atlantic, 3x against Metro (alternating years for the extra home game), and 2x against Pacific.

So, we get no bonus Habs home game. Blech.

The new schedule matrix sucks ass. 4 games against every team in our division. Who wants to see 6 games against the Habs or Leafs? No, I want a home and home against every ****ing team in the West. Nothing like Bruins-Coyotes in the middle of January to get your blood pumping

NHL better put pressure on MGM to keep parking free for Nevada residents. Though plenty of the folks who live in Vegas have drivers licenses from other states.

Won't happen, every other stadium gets to charge for parking. There are fees at everyone of their properties while an event is going on. However, they don't own all the properties and there are other locations to park that don't charge. Now, depending how much MGM makes off their new parking rules, it's likely other properties will follow suit at some point in time.

sorry if it`s been well covered but haven`t kept up with the thread, when would teams need to submit their lists of players to be left unprotected?

Potential coaches for LV
http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/hockey-vegas/5-potential-coaches-the-new-las-vegas-nhl-franchise

Paul MacLean: Assistant with the Anaheim Ducks. Was the former head coach of the Ottawa Senators. Understands the NHL game and is great with the media.

John Torchetti: Assistant coach with Detroit Red Wings. Stepped into a mess of a situation in February when the Minnesota Wild fired Mike Yeo and guided the Wild to the playoffs. An old-school hockey guy.

Travis Green: Head coach of the AHL Utica Comets. Made it to the Calder Cup finals two years ago and is considered a rising star in coaching.

Mike Kitchen: Former head coach of the St. Louis Blues. He has won two Stanley Cups in his six years as an assistant to Joel Quenneville with the Chicago Blackhawks. He may be ready to return to being a head coach.

Claude Julien: Head coach of the Boston Bruins. he’s been taking some heat last couple of years and if the Bruins let him go, he’d be ideal to lead a startup team. Has a .621 winning percentage in nine seasons in Boston and won the Stanley Cup in 2011.

The 30 protected lists are supposed to be in by 6 PM on Saturday, 6/17/17.

Vegas submits their 30-man roster (14F, 9D, 3G, 4 wild cards) 3 days later, on Monday, 6/20/17.

The big announcement comes the next day, Tuesday 6/21/17.

A few more questions:

1) Will the protected lists be made public? Anyone remember what the situation was back in 2001 with CBJ/MIN draft? I kind of doubt it - there's basically no good that can come of it. For example, does it really help Spooner if it gets announced to the media and fans that he was unprotected? Or, hell, does it even help him personally to know going forward that his own TEAM left him unprotected, if he doesn't get picked - even if it's just told to him in a confidential, private sit-down meeting? I mean, we'll be able to make some basic inferences - probably anyone with any type of clause is going to be protected, regardless of NMC vs NTC, unless they come to an agreement. And obviously whoever winds up in Vegas wasn't protected. But a bit of mystery might not be bad.

2) How does Vegas build up their prospect pool? I mean, the B's basically have at least 5-6 people who, theoretically, could be called up. And I guess Vegas will too, since they'll need to send 7 people "down".

3) What happens to those seven extra players? Seems like a crap time for a player to be playing for an NHL team for >2 years, get shuttled to Vegas, and then dropped down to an AHL team that's not even a primary affiliate of your NHL team (ie Jeremy Smith with the Iowa Wild last year). Answering my own question, I guess it's possible that those seven extra players get traded by Vegas for picks and prospects from other teams, killing two birds with one stone. Would those players be allowed to be stocked in the AHL and not have to clear waivers? Seems unfair to not let Vegas have replacement players for when injuries inevitably happen, but it also seems unfair to the players who get stuck in the AHL, too.

I see this working out great...for 2-3 years then it's phoenix all over again. No one in Vegas cares about hockey. Give it to QC or Seattle over that place

1. Seattle has no arena for the NHL to play in and a possible new arena hinges on NBA first.

2. Most of us who visit Vegas know 'The Stip' and the airport and nothing else about the city.

3. Phoenix was working until the idiotic move to Glendale. Now the team says they will build a new arena closer to where their fanbase is.

As another poster said it will be one of the biggest Bruins fan roadtrips every year. I never had any interest in going to a game in Arizona but Vegas??? I'm in.

So many people want to point out that if the team sucks for a long time, people won't show up. But that's true about so many other franchises. Chicago sure as **** wasn't drawing 21k attendance before Kane and Toews showed up.

As for your second point, the #1 thing I get asked by non-locals is what it's like to live in Vegas and how it must be awesome and always a party. The main difference between Vegas and a lot of other places is I get to go to the grocery store at 1 am, which is great. I also thank all tourists for contributing to not having a state income tax. School system blows though, and crime has been on the rise, especially homicides.
