Well, I'm sure he did but neither of us quoted him, my response was to Ratty and it did start with "your kidding right"?

Typically, when you start a post with "You're kidding right?"....

Then follow it up with stuff about you having been there and how unrealistic the idea is, people tend to think you didn't get the joke.

Yeah, it's not a 'traditional hockey town' so they must be a bunch of mouth breathing philistines whose bandwagon wouldn't last as long as the bandwagons we have here in New England.

Lost in translation I guess.

The poster is sighting DKH's post while I never even quoted DKH.

Ratty's post is a bit more ambiguous hence the, Your kidding right.

While DKH's post is clearly tongue in cheek Ratty's , no so much. That is the post I was responding to not DKH's as the poster suggests.

I think the Vegas team, in terms of revenue, will be better off than Phoenix, Carolina, and Florida for sure. Vegas is a lot larger than some people I think realize, the city is chalk full of people who are madly obsessed with sports and don't have a Pro team there (yet), plus, fans of other teams are going to make it a destination as there aren't much more entertaining places in the world other than Vegas.

Plus I imagine it would be a piece of cake to sell all of the corporate suits considering all the giant casinos that are there.

I wouldn't be so sure, half a billion dollars is not chump change. I could see Bettman wanting to get Vegas so bad he wasn't concerned whether the financing was in place in advance, and for that kind of coin I'm still of the opinion that it could very well be the death of this potential expansion franchise...

I hate to say it but your opinion is wrong. Did you actually do any research or just going by your feelings?

Total immediate money grab by the NHL owners. Grab the $500 million fee (owners don't have to share that $$ with players) and worry about the poor attendance and no fan support/fan base in a few years when the newness wears off. Way too many entertainment options in Vegas and its not a hockey area. The smart move to award a team to Quebec City - new arena, proven hockey market and fan support.

They had like the smallest market in the NHL. There is a reason they moved in the 90's.

I get the argument about Las Vegas not being a hockey market (even though I don't get why people care so much) but to say Quebec would be a better place is far from proven. One could argue the opposite.

Quebec needed a new arena and the government at the time would not do so and in 1995 the loonie was trading at about 65 cents US.

Good to know. I knew the rink was a problem but I thought it had a lot to do with the Canadian dollar and fan attendance but what do I know.

My problem is that people think Las Vegas doesn't deserve a team and that since they got one that it's not fair to Quebec. I don't think this is a good argument.

QC will always have to deal with the risk of devaluing Loonie ,, As long as Cnd $ is unstable and going up and down vs US $ it will be issue

QC has potential to be another Ott/Win and be run on cheap because of always facing uncertainty of dollar

When the Bruins play in Vegas, we should plan an HF trip down there for a couple of days! Would be a cool way to get folks from all over NA in the same place to cheer on the team.

This is absolutely something I'd be down for. Went to Nassau with a group of 9 once and we got rowdy. I'd love to storm into Vegas with 10 or so and give the new franchise a taste of Black and Gold.

If you don't think fans of the Canadian teams aren't going to want to take vacations to Vegas to see their team play you crazy...

Vegas will have to keep games against teams with no travelling fanbases to midweek if they get a little bit of help w/scheduling it will be a smashing success. If the Toronto and Montreal games aren't on a Wednesday and are on Saturday's lots of people are going to want to fly in.

Even if there are some empty seats for midweek games overall the people who do go are going to be paying a lot more than Arizona and Florida fans do.

QC couldn't even sell out a Beiber show on a Saturday night a month or so ago. Probably the only stop on his tour that you could buy face value tickets to up until show time.

Hard to see them filling that barn at NHL prices long term if they can't even do that.

I just can't wait to see what kind of team they can build in the expansion draft. Something tells me they won't be a bottom dweller. It is very likely they will end up with a serviceable team. I honestly think there are many teams out there that would honestly prefer the option to start fresh in this manner.

This may be the absolute worst comparison I have ever read. Bieber fans are not hockey fans - opposite demographic.

Vegas is a bess pool. Filthy, porn and hookers and non stop neon. Far from a family vacation spot to bring the kids to catch a NHL game.
