NO, this is an inaccurate narrative for one reason. It ignores that the key, perhaps the only real reason LaF is underperforming, is his skating, which is slowly improving and may be NHL sufficient by next season. Unless NY gets offer based on that expectation of LaF development AND which is too good to turn down, they should keep him. LaF ranked [not verbatim but something like] the best non-generational 1OA since MacKinnon. That should not be thrown out the window.

Except he's massively underperforming and the Rangers may not want to wait another couple of years before Laf starts to develop, if they believe that their window is open now.

Even Jack Hughes started to show a little more after his 2nd season.

Could be completely wrong, but I saw on CDC that someone’s friend in the media said the current offer from NYR is Laff, 1st this year and 2nd next year, but Allvin is pulling the bust card on Laffy, saying that second needs to be upgraded to ensure we get an impact piece for Miller. This is for no retention.

if this is true, there will be a public execution of Chris Drury outside Madison Square Garden

I wonder how desperate Drury and Co feel to make a splash while they’re firing on all cylinders? Are they worried they’ve caught lightning in a bottle and won’t be able to replicate the same success next year?

Not at all because the team hasn't been "firing on all cylinders" at any point this season. They have four excellent top six players and then a mix of kids who aren't quite ready and 4th liners who never will be. The defense after Fox and Trouba is more green than moldy broccoli. The number one reason for their record is an insanely hot goalie and excellent PP/PK units. That's not enough to win a Cup regardless of the "splash" that could be made at the trade deadline.

The very idea that the Rangers would offer the only 1st overall they've ever had (and only the third top 5 pick in the last ~60 years) just one year after drafting him AND a 1st rounder AND a 2nd rounder is just ridiculous. I don't care whose cousin's neighbor's dog walker's favorite poodle came up with the cockamamie idea. It's ridiculous, and you should stop posting it in multiple threads, because there is no way it is even remotely true.

The plan all along has been for the current top-skilled vets to carry the team now and slowly transition to the high draft picks and other kids over the next 4-5 years. They want a longer window than the one they'd get with this group of vets alone.

I see them using prospect depth and future picks to improve the team, but I don't think it'll be any of the big prospects.

Nobody who has watched the Rangers can seriously argue they are firing on all cylinders. Today's game being the latest example.

Laf's agent that now works for the 'Nucks might feel like she knows there are reasons that Laf is not playing up to expectations.

That's why Chris Paul, Karl-Anthony Towns, Joel Embiid, Victor Oladipo, Devin Booker, and LeBron James are all NY Knicks now, right? (all former clients of Leon Rose who was then hired as the President of the NY Knicks)

Having Laf's former agent in your front office might explain why Vancouver wants to acquire Laf. It does NOTHING to explain why the Rangers would ever give him up (and certainly not for a season and a half rental in JT Miller).

Personally, dont even ask me about a Laf trade if Pettersson isnt in the deal. & no as of now I dont thunk Nucks should consider that.

I do honestly wonder though. If both players dont catch their stride. Maybe in a year or 2 its a deal to consider.
