Speculation: Larkin trade return

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
It frustrates the hell out of me that all of these team USA guys want to play together but Larkin never convinced any of them to come play in Detroit.

Obviously a big piece of this is on Yzerman to create an attractive environment and subsequently acquire the guys.

Detroit should be a USA hockey hotbed. And yet...

Maybe if the arena was in Birmingham

If Yzerman had traded for Quinn Hughes, there could have been an exodus of Michigan-based players coming to Detroit. We could be talking about Hellebuyck, Werenski, etc. Oh well. He didn't want to take a risk. Now we tank again.

I'm not convinced any of these guys are willing to consider Detroit.

I mean two years ago we finished tied for the last playoff spot and were considered to have one of the best prospect pools in the league. Ostensibly, we should have been a desirable landing spot at that point with a very bright future. Despite that, the best we could pull from the free agent market was Tarasenko, Appleton and JBD.

This is where I put part of it on Larkin. You had a team knocking at the door, a great prospect pool and you still couldn't convince your buddies to join you?

We'll never know because no attempt was made and it can't happen now. The Red Wings were more attractive than Vancouver and Columbus. We know Werenski and Larkin are best buds. Zach would obviously want to come to Detroit to play with him and Hughes. Sure, we probably lose Edvinsson and ASP, but who cares at that point. We could be talking more seriously about star players wanting to come and stay here, too. Hell, maybe Quinn convinces Jack to play for the Red Wings. Not trading for Quinn Hughes was the biggest miss this franchise has made...maybe ever?

But Yzerman (and some fans) didn't want to take a risk so now the team's best player and captain wants out and the Red Wings are staying in the basement at least another five years.

The Detroit Red Wings are going nowhere in 2026-27. I’m just blown away the amount of people that want a package from Dallas. Jason Robertson and that trade are taking the Red Wings nowhere. I’m so over this BS I could puke. Constantly wanting to pick 12th to 15th and spinning their wheels going nowhere. Prospects, picks and tank. Larkin,Faulk and maybe even Debrincat should all be sold at maximum value. It’s the only shot the wings have to ever get to a Cup holding level. They aren’t going to be able to trade or attract free agents as currently constructed. They’ve got to build a contender core to attract those players. I’m 100% against another pretend contend.

Well if only he told them they might have the privilege of playing with not one, but two, yes two Dower Nilsson’s.

I'm just going to assume that Jason Robertson is being traded to Detroit since that would be kinda cool.

Robertson - Kasper - Raymond
Debrincat - Copp - Kane
Finnie - Danielson - MBN
Mazur - Compher - Trade
Appleton

Edvinsson - Seider
Johansson - Faulk
Chiarot - ASP

Centers obviously need A LOT of work, but that's not far off of how Minnesota is constructed and while they're not great, it's at least a respectable lineup.

Wild want him so bad ….

Eriksson ek 2027 3rd to habs for Kapinen reinbacher 2027 1st

Trade reinbacher wallstedt yurov 2027 1st for Larkin … since larks loves his Americans so much throw in compher 50% 😂… or someone like Lombardi Buium Mazur extra etc…

Ducks need righties …. Trade reinbacher Faulk 2027 1st get mctavish and solberg

You forgot Finnie.
(I might suggest penciling him in at 1C)

In this lineup, hopefully Kane stays

As it is, I didn't see Tkachuk going to minny - he went to Florida with his brother. The talk around Quinn has always been about his wanting to play with his brothers. Maybe he'll stay somewhere and four years from now convince Jack to come where ever he is...or he'll just jump to jersey in a year.

Trading for one of these guys is one thing, at this point I'm not sure I'd trust any beyond whatever season they're currently playing.

Yzerman just needs to whisper into Robertson’s ear that he should have been on the Olympic team and he will sign long term.

If one has any modicum of belief in Kasper/Danielson you can see how it could work.

The greatest point of optimism is the fact that we still have a solid arsenal of young players that could develop or be packaged to upgrade our centers.

If guys like Kasper/Danielson can even reach even a Shane Pinto-ish level, I'd think you could package one of them, a young winger like Bear and a 1st for a meaningful upgrade at center as well.

This may be an unpopular take, but if this amounts to a trade of Dylan Larkin for Jason Robertson, I don't think that's going to end well for Detroit... unless the Wings somehow unearth a much better center than anybody currently on their roster.

We could still trade for a guy like Thomas or ep40.

I think people need to realize, given the list, that detroit is not getting a comparable center back. Dallas has lots of center depth but the ones they'd likely be willing to trade are not the ones we want.

Its much more likely that larkin would be going to dallas to be a LW, a cheaper option than robo. If yzerman is willing to pay the 14m id be happy with that. We would still have like 24.5m in cap space to play with
