Rumor: Larkin requests trade

What contender has the level of picks and prospects that even begin to form an acceptable package for Larkin?
Anaheim,
I don't think this would happen but let's say the #2 overall is the value... what if they believe Stenberg could step into the NHL right away and they buy low on a center like Pettersson and run a full swede line. Still doesn't address the second line but that's a start in giving the team a new look for the next season. Still would need to give in and trade some futures for a real 2C to play with DBC, but if that's a good 2C, you can probably run with MBN on the other wing and you have a decent start for a top 6. That's just to say, I hope this forces Yzerman to be aggressive and creative this summer. There are a lot of options imo, and that's just one of them.
why are there so many people who are so obsessed with loading the team with Swedes?

Anaheim,

why are there so many people who are so obsessed with loading the team with Swedes?
It's just an example. Pettersson is a very realistic cheap option for a top 6C and Stenberg is a very realistic get at 2nd overall... and Raymond has played well with both. Dones't have much to do with them being Swedes, but they are.

I had started to think it was a possibility but never truly believed it was this close. I have always been a big Larkin supporter but he has truly shown a lack of leadership the last few years and there is no way to sugar coat that. His attitude, his lack of ability to rally the team, the diving, and overall the history of collapses and losing is all on him. Yes Yzerman shares blame in the roster construction but he wasn't much of an inspiration for the franchise and I do think that leached into all areas of the organization. I hope they rip the band aid off and do it quickly and restart the roster aimed at Mo and Ray. Mo is 110% the new leader as he should be.

With that said, thanks for the good times Dylan. A great Red Wing and I am sure a great person. No hard feelings but at the same time... see you later. The team has gone into the off season with hugely negative vibes the last few years, not exactly how you should feel after a long rebuild phase.

Just thought of it …So Yzerman usually keeps thing on the downlow …that punk ass bitch Dylan released the trade request to the media?

Yzerman must be pissed 😂 ya I’m in no hurry to trade him if I’m Stevie unless I get what I want he can come to Detroit and get daily wedgies from his teammates and Stevie’s stare downs

I don't think that was similar at all. Marty was in the twilight of his career and even though he's a better player than Larkin losing Larkin is a much bigger loss than it was for Tampa to lose Marty.
I'll have to respectfully disagree. If you listen to what fans outside of the Red Wings echo chamber have to say, no one really shows any respect for Larkin. Sure, some are getting in their digs, but that's to be expected.

No one outside of the usual suspects who clucked about Larkin's no trade clause preventing him from being moved are now saying this is a terrible loss for Detroit. No one.

The last time Stevie traded a captain

It will be a tough pill to swallow but best thing long term is trade the 25+ guys for as much draft capital as possible and be bad next year

Larkin is something else. Lots of guys ask for trades and we don’t know about it but he went to every media outlet to force the issue. When the going got tough he showed his true character year in year out. Good riddance

What fans are saying is irrelevant. We literally have nothing else at center and it looks like his picks at center won't work out in the top 6. This is way more catastrophic for Yzerman.

The avs held onto Duchene for a while after he requested a trade. Sakic got roasted for it along the way but ended up landing the pick that they drafted Makar with.

There is a precedence for being patient through this.
Yzerman doesn’t have that kind of leeway. If he was still in his 3rd or 4th year, yeah he could pull that off. Not anymore.

Legitimately excited about this.

I don't have any problem with Larkin nor do I think any of the dysfunction is his fault, but the status quo was a one way ticket to shattering Buffalo's playoff drought record by *several* years. This actually forces Yzerman to have to do something different for once, for better or worse (and even getting worse is better that staying 19th best in the league every single year)

f*** Hughes he could have said he was open to an extension then. You can't be pissed when a team won't mortgage their future without some sort of assurance.

Or maybe it's Yzerman's job to make a franchise that players actually want to play for?

If two local boys want nothing to do with the team, uh, maybe look within for answers.

Yzerman isn't without blame. But I don't care if someone is going to get pissed because someone else isn't willing to go all in when they themselves won't even flirt back.

A little surprising, but Friedman makes a good point about his buddies previously making power moves. Probably emboldened him. And I believe that him and Yzerman really don't get along.

Well, it will officially be Mo's team, who I think should be a much stronger leader at least.

This has to reset the rebuild though, might be completely irresponsible to not tank at least next season. Gotta trade away more than just Larkin. Really focus on building around Mo now.

That all said, I might be getting ahead of myself. I can see a scenario where Yzerman says eff you, you're playing on this team for two more years, until that NTC diminishes.

The Red WIngs leverage rests on the willingness to tank, and wait Larkin out.

Mo will be captain, 71 will be playing on a line with Copp and Compher, while the WIngs entertain offers for everyone, including old fired zamboni drivers.

I read or heard on NHL radio prospet show that 27 is shaping up to be a very deep draft at least 1st round "depth."

"Petes" post of a couple weeks ago is a lot more interesting this afternoon. 👀
