Sure. Montreal is an awesome city. Tons to love.

Money talks though. Can Montreal (or any Canadian team) make up the difference in $ value? Could find out in the summer.
they can

He needs to go down to the AHL to learn how to play defense, but I think MTL can risk it and maybe give him a one-way.....

I don't see him as an integral piece on a contender, so if MTL becomes a playoff team, they could always trade him to a non-playoff team looking for some offense.
and the troll take of the thread award arrives on page 4

Easily.

Never mind how deep the pockets of the Habs and Leafs are, but the Canadian markets can get away with charging more for tickets than many US markets.

Dang 2 games to burn a whole year?? What a waste for Montreal... I'm surprised GMs allow this sort of stuff to happen....If i was a GM it wouldn't happen on my watch.
But did you know that he wouldn't be a RFA at the end of his ELC ?

What ?

They're all paid in US $.

In fact, it means that they would get more for their US $ the more the Canadian $ goes down...

If I'm lane there is no way I bridge here. The deal will start when he is 22.5 years old. If you sign a 3 year bridge then 8 that takes you to 33.5 and it could be hard to get another meaningful deal. I'd want a 5 or 6 year deal now so if he is still good around 27-28 it allows him to sign another big money 8 year deal. Quinn hughes got a 6 year deal.

He's playing just behind quinn hughes pace for his 1st year. I'd want something a little less than Hughes cap percentage if I was lane. If montreal wouldn't give it to me I'd play the 2nd year of the elc and try to match Hughes 2nd year pace to go after equal cap percentage.

8x8 isn’t a big contract, if he is willing to sign for that you do it instantly. That’s borderline good second pairing guy money. The current elite guys like heiskanen, mcavoy etc will have two or three years left on their current deals by the time hutsons deal kicks in and will be getting paid 11-13 on the next one. makar will be signing for 13-15.

If he’s looking for 9 or 10 plus i think you may have to look at a bridge to see if he truly deserves #1 money.

Edit: guess the mcavoy and miro deals are more recent than i thought.

Nothing at all wrong with the quinn hughes or makar models, 6 years instead of 8 to keep the cap down
What are you talking about? Only 21 defensemen make $8million or more. It takes 64 players to make up top pairings across the NHL. You’d need 50+ dmen making $8million or more for your comment to make sense.

Not to be that guy, but has there been any indication that he wants to return to the states? I know the taxes and social situations are drastically different between the states and Canada but I'm not sure/haven't seen if there is anything that indicates Lane feels one way or the other?
Nothing so far. The fans lick his boots. We will see where he goes to workout during the summer. There's a couple guys that stay in Montreal during the summer.

I guess i should have said lower end first pairing money, the elite number ones like makar and hughes will be making 12+

And a lot of the time the two highest paid guys don’t play together.

But yes. My bad

On the other hand, if GMs continue handing out these big contracts for one good year, your assessment just might be right in just a few years. :DD

I know we joke, but seriously his head fakes are on another level. Kids got a ton of skill. No denying it. If he doesn’t get hurt I do Predict a very long prosperous career.

Oh yeah, the kid has kid has moves and has great offensive ability. They let me on this computer for 10 mins before I serve 6 months, see you in July.

I'd be bridging him to see if he learns to pay in his own end before I pay him 8m.
Dude.

He is a baby-faced rookie and currently the 14th most productive defenseman in the league.

If he was a stud defensively on top of that, do you really think he'd sign an 8M per year contract?
