To be fair Juneau had his rookie season in 1992-1993 when there was two expansion teams. The same season Selanne scored his 72 rookie goal record. Hutson is playing in a lower scoring era than many of those on that list. Only ones on the list that had their rookie season in the 2000s are Crosby and Barzal and one of those is somewhat close to Lemieux.

Regardless....people who aren't Habs fans (and even a lot of them) want more than one season of success/performance before they go claiming someone is going to be as good or better than the consensus best defenseman in the nhl. If he repeats and/or builds on this season next year, you'll probably have a lot more people open to the idea.

I'm curious why some people still think he won't be as good as Makar. Makar had like 0.86ppg rookie season and Hutson is at 0.8 ppg.

He puts up almost as many assists as a defenseman as the generational talent Crosby did during his rookie year. And now he even surpassed Mario. This is crazy.

Not saying the card is infallible but when I watch him he's not good in his own end and this sort of matches what I see. He's only 20, he's got a lot of time to figure it out.
