He now has 9th most assists for a rookie ever.

I'm curious why some people still think he won't be as good as Makar. Makar had like 0.86ppg rookie season and Hutson is at 0.8 ppg.

He puts up almost as many assists as a defenseman as the generational talent Crosby did during his rookie year. And now he even surpassed Mario. This is crazy.

Your list answers your own question. Why would some people think Hutson won't be as good as Makar? Well, Joe Juneau was clearly better than Lemieux, righ? And Neal Broten and Mathew Barzal?

Some people want more than 1 season before they annoint a player anything. There was this high drafted rookie dman named Tyler Myers who had an amazing rookie season and won the Calder for his efforts, and never came close to those point totals ever again.

Makar is better defensively and has a far more lethal shot. He's arguably the most impactful player in the NHL. That's probably why people don't think Hutson will be as good.

All of the name you mentioned are forwards. Only defenseman on the list who has more assists is Larry Murphy. He turned out alright didnt he?

Impressive season for him non the less. Have to agree with some that we need to see another impressive season to compare to someone like Makar who has years over him at elite play.

And I compared those forwards to Lemieux.

Juneau had more assists than Lemieux. Therefore Juneau will have the better career.

Hutson had more assists than Makar. Therefore Hutson will have the better career.

This is basically what you are stating. And once again, people want more than one season before they declare someone as good or better than someone who has been doing it for multiple years (or their entire career).

Murphy did turn out alright, but there's a LOT of defensemen who turned out better who didn't get as many points their rookie season.

To be fair Juneau had his rookie season in 1992-1993 when there was two expansion teams. The same season Selanne scored his 72 rookie goal record. Hutson is playing in a lower scoring era than many of those on that list. Only ones on the list that had their rookie season in the 2000s are Crosby and Barzal and one of those is somewhat close to Lemieux.
