GDT: 2025 U18's Day 1

Did we really not have any big bodies to replace #3 on defence? What does he even do? Every time the guy gets the puck, I have to hope for the best.

We do have a couple of D prospects and I would have definitely taken 08s and 09s over some of the lower pairings Ds. Jukams, Grundmanis, for instance.

I felt we were firmly in control in the first half of the period, high forecheck, nothing going through for Norway, but that 3-on-5 destroyed any kind of momentum we had and we only picked up our pace at the end of the period.

As long as we can avoid getting 3 penalties per period, I think we should be fine.

To be fair at this level almost every team has players who are thrown into the deep end for their talent level. Other players who could replace him might be a different kind of bad, but still bad.

Pretty surprising Sweden scored 10 considering how sloppy the play was for long periods of time. Don’t think a lot of conclusions can be drawn from a game like this other than there is plenty of offensive firepower on the Swedish team. Good thing Stenberg got to score, looked frustrated with his performance. Ekberg could not have asked for a better start with 4 goals.

For Switzerland I guess Florian Schenk was among the noticeable with two goals and a Michigan attempt.

Naudins with a dominating last shift, this kid is a puck possession beast.

I feel like we need to tweak our lines a little bit and move Serkins to wing, Reidzans is good, but I would strongly prefer Serkins on Murnieks wing.

We need all of our skill in the top 6 to have sustained O zone pressure and break their backs

SOG were 16-6 in favor of Latvia in the 2nd

Not a single sustained attack from Norway all game at ES.

Are you watching the game? Norway had 2 great, prolonged shifts in the Latvian zone and got 4 of their 6 shots during those 2 shifts. With 5 minutes left in the period, overall shots were still 15-14 Norway.

But I guess De Nile is the river in Egypt.

What I find fascinating is that the IIHF ticker shows shots at 22-25 Latvia at the moment and the broadcast 19-26 Latvia. I mean it shouldn't be that difficult to determine what shot is or isn't in the hockey game.

And that's what I'm talking about. Time keeps ticking, Latvians can't score on the open net... In the game that can cost them the QF entry, I'm nervous as hell seeing this. It takes one lucky break or simply taken chance for Norway and it's 3 points for them.

Sucks to lose a point here, but a win is a win.

SOG 40-22 in favor of Latvia

We had 3 or 4 empty-net, 100% golden scoring chances and failed to capitalize on any of them in regulation time.

Lower pairing Ds are a problem, but at the same time our offense finally started getting some traction in the 2nd and 3rd.

Smits is a stud, Naudins has some NHL upside as well. We're doing fine.

I'm not sure what they're showing you guys in Lithuania. It might be Czechoslovakia-Poland from 1986.

Oh, and they actually started playing a Latvian 90s rock anthem instead of our national anthem and barely anyone complained

Potter really popped in the 1st. Skating is high end despite his size. Also liked Horcoff, you can really see the pro tools with him

As for the Czechs, I can’t understand why Zahejsky didn’t work in the dub. His skill level and pace stand out to me. They did at the Hlinka as well

US goalie has had some very good saves... I'm not banking on a win here. But we have had a lot of good looks and have had good pressure.
