Hes already a better defender than Hughes.

Considering Mcavoy is a top 2-3 defender in the NHL, sure.

Its funny you bring this up, I was looking for highlight videos like this. This is what I am craving. Someone made one of all of Fox's plays a few years ago, it was like 30 minutes away and included all his goals, assists, dangles, zone exits, zone entrys, lol, I want something like this.

If I counter your assertion about getting 12 mil, it means i simply counter your assertion about getting 12 mil. What other posters have said has no relevance whatsoever to what I said. Everything else than what I said is a strawmen if you're replying to me. If you want to argue over 8 mil, do it with the actual people who said that.

You also completely ignored what I stated about his RFA years. You are analyzing his salary demands as if he's a UFA with many years of experience. I very much doubt he'll get anything more than 10 mil per on an 8 year deal, because 1-he only played one season and no one has a crystal ball to see if he'll get 100 pts in a season (which was probably your lamest argument), 2-he can't expect to be paid like a free agent for the entirety of his contract 3-he's small and frail, and Habs are taking part in a risk by signing him so early. It's a quid pro quo and because of that, he's not gonna get paid like a top 5 D in the league.

Furthermore, if you look at Kent's history so far, outside of Slaf, all his signings were pretty good and either around what people expected, or sometimes lower.

He's not getting close to 100 or crack 80 until he develops a shot. Might take a few years might be never.

Well said. I would've paid Evans 4m at the time, not gonna lie. Thought he was the next Plekanec

Hutson might get 10-12 million IF he keeps improving. Cap space will be at 49million in 26-27 season anyway.

I’d try hard to get him to accept Caufield money. Caufield could’ve asked for more but agreed - and helped set - the self imposed cap we have now. Hopefully Hutson agrees.

If he wants more though - we’d just have to pay the guy. He’s just too good.

I think we can get him at 7.5. We’ll see.

Cale Makar signed his 6 year contract in July 2021 at age 21, at $9M AAV after two full years in the NHL, which took up 11.0% of the 81.5M salary cap after two full seasons where he had:

• 2019-20: 50 pts in 57 games and won Calder trophy
• 2020-21: 44 pts in 44 games

Using the projected salary cap of 104M in 2026-27 (when Hutson's contract would come into effect), we can project different AAVs depending on the % of cap limit that should be allocated to the contract

Lane Hutson:

• 2024-25: 62 pts in 75 games and may win Calder trophy
• 2025-26: ???

Even if you try to make the case that he isn't at Makar's level and thus shouldn't get 11% of salary cap, assuming a 6 year contract, we would be lucky to get him below $9-10M. Caufield himself signed his 8 year deal for 9.40% of the total cap at the time, so an equivalent amount for Lane at that % would be $9.78M

Sky is the limit for this kid and I would be happy to pay him what he deserves.
