Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

Regarding Hutson's salary negotiations.

The highest paid defensemen are at around 11 million a year. They signed their contracts earlier when the cap was lower, but they are also eating up UFA years.

I think that 8 years, 11 million/year should be enough. It makes him the second highest paid defensemen in the NHL and takes him to UFA.

Suzuki is in my opinion a more valuable player (for now), but he signed his contract when the cap was lower.

Hot take, by the end of their careers, the Demidov and Hutson duo will be the greatest Habs forward-defenseman duo of all time (better than Jean-Harvey or Lafleur-Larry)

They need to stay healthy.

It's a tremendous obstacle.

Injuries are what kept Markov, Subban, and Price out of the hall of fame (Price might make it), and possibly out of having their jerseys retired.

How good could Koivu have been?

Price is a lock. Only question is if he's first ballot. Subban was a HOF talent for sure. Tragic that injuries prevented him from a long career. Both those guys should still be playing.

Just heard what that nincompoop Snake Boisvert said yesterday. Another fool missing the forest for the trees. Kid was already top 10 all time rookie D when he made his comment about putting Hutson 3rd in the Calder race. Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but it's just completely foolish, even before last night as Hutson had much runway to beat Murphy's assist record.

Snake would fit well on the main board.
That gonzo is a loser. I do not know why he got this much time on the radio, even my time at the toilet sound better

Was really hoping he'd get at least a point tonight. He's chasing history and there aren't many games left.
I'd be shocked if he didn't get 4 more assists in the next 8 games considering he's averaged 7 per 8 games since about christmas.

That said the rookie assist record isn't that important. I'm more pleased with the "modern day" point lead of 60 points by a rookie dman.

I would him Suzuki money. At 8 years x 7.95 million

What do you guys think is this guy's ceiling? 75 pts? More? I think it will largely depend on how many shots he takes and how much more he can improve it. IMO if he can get some chances like Markov used to by sneaking through the back door, he can maybe get 12-15 goals

A PPG season certainly doesn't seem that far fetched anymore, he could come very close to it in the next few years IMO. He gets so much puck possession time every game and he's creating something on offense every other shift, he could reach Makar-ish production pretty easy if the rest of the team is up to par, but with a lot more assists than goals, obviously.
