Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

I've been watching Hutson all year on TV and being amazed at how great he is, watched the last three games at home live against Florida, Boston and Philly and came away even more enamored with him.

The first shift I saw of him he went around Marchand like he was a pylon in the offensive zone and that goal he scored against Ersson the other night I had a direct angle, the puck would have hit me square in the forehead if not for the net and the glass of course, and that was a beauty shot.
His defense is what I find astonishing. I expected him to be an offensive player but never thought he could play a regular shift. Boy was I WRONG....

This is the top 5 skaters by Average GameScore. In the month of March. It's minimum 10 games played.

Hutson ranked 3rd.

I was actually wondering that, Chelios said that he wanted to be there to see him beat the record, this might actually happen!

Well, my scenario is it was not told before because they couldnt not know if the record would be beaten before or after tonight game. I expect Chelios to be there tonight and if Habs wins the game, having Hutson the 1st star and a short cerenemony on ice with Chelios when talking to Marc Denis. I think its better to notify that way than at beginning of the next home game. Who knows!?

Remember when 80% of the post-scriptum were about his size and maybe 5% of them.were about his IQ.

Lesson: hockey fans, scouts Gm prefer analysing size than IQ.... when however The Goat Gretzky was 170 pounds...

I don't think i've ever been more wrong about a prospect in my life. Kid has made me enjoy several turd sandwhiches and crow burgers.
There are so many super talented shrimps who fall on their face once they play high level pro leagues.

I didn’t have a ‘take’ on Hutson because I happen to think small skilled players are (relatively) undervalued in the NHL but knew he wasn’t guaranteed, so it’s been a surprise still to see him play as well as he has. He is the reason we’ve pushed into a playoff spot. Who would’ve thought?

His skill isn’t just high but off the charts.

People were pumping Mete so hard back in the day, I didn't know what we had drafted lol. I hope they can insulate him and take care of him, or will MSL leave him to get slaughtered next year?

If we don’t get a steady and tough two way RHD partner for Hutson it will be a big mistake. Guhle on his off hand is not it.

Like it or not, it seems like one of them playing in their off hand is the way forward. First, Lane looked even better playing on the right side with Struble than he did on his left side. But, more importantly, you want your two best dmen on the ice the most. We want them playing 24 minutes a night. You don’t want a 1-2 D playing on the second pairing.

I'd like for Hutson in the best possible position for him to do Hutson things.
I'd like for Hutson's partner to be in the best possible position receive and return the puck and allow Hutson to do Hutson things.

The reason is simple: Hutson will be hunted, targeted, chased, aimed at, etc. I want him to have a fast and easy outlet pass to reduce the chances of him being hit by a forechecker so I think this requires that he is on the left side and his partner is right handed on the right side. Anything else would slow down (however slightly) Hutson's ability to relieve himself of forechecking pressure.

Agree that Hutson has looked good on the right side and it's not a huge issue if that's the case, but it's perfectly fine your two best D to play on seperate pairings. They can still both play 24min a night, and best part is that means you've got a stud D on the ice for 48 minutes.

Ivan Demidov on Lane Hutson:

“I haven’t watched the latest Canadiens games, but I’ve been keeping up with all the highlights and recaps. I followed Lane a lot — I really like how he plays. He’s very skilled and technically strong. A great player.”

Starting to make an argument for Hart consideration. A reach yes but that’s how much of an impact he has provided.

“Most valuable to your team”. Habs don’t make the playoffs without Hutson this year. You can say the same for Suzuki
