Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

Most spectacular habs players in my lifetime

Born in 75 so I remember Lafleur in early 80s so:

In order

Stephane Richer
Alex Kovalev
Lane a Hutson
P.k Subban

When he was on.... Richer was so lethal. Unfortunately it seems that people remember just his shot but how many time Richer carried the puck end to end beating 3 or 4 players..

Kovalev was so smooth with one of the best hands in history.

His charisma on the ice was unmatched except of Lafleur.

I talked to him many times and his prestance and charisma off the ice was unbelievable. He was a lot bigger off the ice than he looked on the ice. The dude was huge.

Richer either.

Today Richer is maybe at 6.2 255 pounds....so big and not a lot of fat even today....those who have seen him in person knows what I talking about.
Richer should’ve been a HOFer. Just a great player

Hutson is tied for the 9th best all-time season by a Habs dman. As a rookie.

Will he one day beat Big Bird's 85?
I'd say more likely than not he does.

As a rookie he's going to put up nearly 70 points, on a middle of the pack team, despite not playing on the 1st PP for the first 2 months and with a shot that needs some improvements.

When he's in his prime with an improved shot and we're among the top teams in the league then I think 85 is very achievable for him.

PK Subban on Lane Hutson:

''Two weeks ago, I said Macklin Celebrini should have been the Rookie of the Year. If the Montreal Canadiens make it into the playoffs, that is Lane Hutson's trophy. It should be his trophy."

"This is my favorite player to watch in the National Hockey League. He's carrying this team."
Mike Johnson said something similar yesterday too. He said 4 weeks ago he thought Wolf and Celebrini were still in it but he's come around and said the trophy has to be Lane Hutsons.

Did you guys notice how aggressive NSH played Hutson on the PP ? I thought they did a great job on him. I don't like Caufield at the point , It should always be Suzuki , if teams lock in to Hutson like that its gonna open Laine and if they shadow Laine Nick will be wide open to walk in to the hash marks on the other side and hit his spot.

I wish CC or Slaf could play the bumper better we would legit have the best pp in the league

They have to start playing lower and attempting to make plays down low.

Much like the Weber years, they have turned into a one-trick pony in that they're always looking to get the puck to Laine for the big laser. Fine play, but it's a lot less effective when teams not only know it's coming and overcompensate for it. I've noticed the last couple of PPs that Nick, Hutson and Caufield are being swarmed.

It's because everyone knows Slaf won't take it to the net and looks to dish. If he did this even once, twice a game teams would have to defend it (opening up other guys in the future) or he'd get free lane. He's yet to do this.
