If you can't arrange to have Hutson on with your best line particularly when you are behind f*** OFF.
I'm very sorry but this should NEVER EVER happen

Or… they’re showcasing Matheson for a trade. And I hope they are.Pretty cool that Matheson's second "most minus 3 you'll ever minus 3" in 2 weeks ended up with him getting PP1 duties back from Hutson.
Marty is showing that he's a teacher but he's not a coach.

I’ve been rolling it around in my mind why they didn’t move him last year. I guess it makes sense with our green D. They had no idea that Hutson would be what he is. Right off the bat he’s a 20 minute blueliner. They couldn’t have known that coming in. So I guess it made sense to have an experienced guy there that you could throw hard minutes at. But he’s outgrown his usefulness.
So yeah, play him on the PP. let him boost his points - and move him.
What’s more demonstrative of this than a trade?Accountability is more important than anything else right now, it's sinking the team.
My patience with him is done. I think he can help a more talented team win. I think he’s outgrown his worth with us. Personally, I’d play the hell out of him and trade him.GMs know what Matheson is, putting him back on PP1 in the 3rd period after he's given the Penguins 3 goals is not a message anyone should be sending.

I’m simply saying what I’d do in this situation. If I were Montreal, I’ve seen enough of Hutson now to know he’s ready for the gig. I’d play Matheson a ton and I’d move him. That if you are a veteran and you f*** up continuously, night in and night out, you don't get promotions in game, and you actually sit and see your role reduced.
MSL has cultivated a situation all season long where if you are a veteran like Matheson or Dvorak, you can literally give the other team the puck in the slot and have them score a back breaking goal against us, and the only accountability you will face is that you will get MORE ice time, PP time and Overtime usage.
But if you are named Slafkovsky, Hutson or Dach and you make one lazy stick play, you will see the bench and not get to come back out on the ice.
This is Rotenberg/Therrien mindset.
I was just gonna say that is Té-rien tout craché.That if you are a veteran and you f*** up continuously, night in and night out, you don't get promotions in game, and you actually sit and see your role reduced.

That move was completely brain dead. Matheson was barely able to pivot without falling last night and he gets promoted. And what happens ? He looks like a moron.
Is that any different than 95% of coaches in the NHL?That if you are a veteran and you f*** up continuously, night in and night out, you don't get promotions in game, and you actually sit and see your role reduced.

I mean, every coach that preceded MSL in Montreal, Ducharme, Julien, Therrien, etc...all did the same.
Not sure if MSL is good or not...roster quality = coaching results and I just don't think the roster is much better than the results they're currently getting. The good coaches are the 5% that don't do it.
You are touching on the conundrum we have.. MSL hasn't proven to be very good, though he's a better teacher than those other clowns, and our alternatives are worse..
There's no good coaching situation for the Habs especially since the only viable candidate, Montgomery, got fired by the Bruins too early for it to make sense for us.

MSL always should have been in a player development role. Anything good you ever hear about him is situations where he's working one-on-one with guys and teaching them skills. The good coaches are the 5% that don't do it.

There are things to rip him on. That’s true of any coach. But I don’t think we need to fire this guy with the kind of urgency that we’re hearing from some folks. It's certainly trending that he is average at best. Not a lot of positive stories this year and his approach to fixing it seems to be... uninspiring.
