Not enough said about his defensive game for a rookie. Folks here made it same he was incapable of playing without the puck. Just plain false.

He's pretty strong for a small guy. He wins his battles and reminds me of Markov defensively. Doesn't need to use brute force. Smart positioning and stick work. Breaks up a lot of plays with his anticipation.

He has some Nick Lidstrom in him, for sure. You wouldn't think he would be that good at it, but somehow he makes it work every time. He has that rare combo of excellent reads and perfect stick work.

That's why you gotta pick high for more than just 3 years. You gotta stack enough talent before you compete. Your sentence shows why we're not there yet.

Demidov may earn first line reps out of camp I wouldn't hesitate to use him with Suzuki out of the gate.
We've already seen two forwards benefit from playing on that RW in three seasons not to mention RHP's moment of glory.
I think Ivan's game is much further ahead than say Cole Caufield was when he started which while not being a "first line" was our scoring line.
Much depends on Dach himself and where his game is at next camp.

This is silly. Teams having more than 3 years of bottom 5 picks are Stuck like BUF or ANA. If you look at Teams winning the SC they have few bottom 5 picks : CHI had Kane Toews LAK Doughty WSH Ovi Bacstrom STL Pietrangelo TBL Hedman Stamkos COL Mackinnon Makar (VGK is exclûtes for obviously reasons and PIT is the exception to some extent to the rule with Fleury Crosby Staal and Malkin and they Even had to trade Staal while Fleury was not their goalie for the 2016 2017 wins)

Stacking pure Talent just leaves you with paying 11m to Dahlin 8m to Power Cozens and Thompson and trading a recent 9OA for a 3C.

This has been one of the more pleasant surprises of what has been a predictably uneven transitional year.

When I first saw Hutson I thought we had drafted an 11 year old. I was actually fearful of his being steamrolled and hurt playing in the NHL. But after almost a third of the season, those fears have abated. Defensively, he has shown that despite his size he can control larger opposing players along the boards. Most importantly, it's a matter of Hutson's effort. He plays each shift like it's his last. This kid will end up being a leader of this team going forward. It's a question of his incredibly high skills, his level of effort and the growing confidence that his teammates, his coaches and the fans have in this amazing young player. There are 31 other teams collectively kicking themselves for passing on this future superstar.

It is not too farfetched to see him annually being in consideration for the Norris Trophy when he grows up. Heck, it may even happen this year.

If he ends the year with 60-65 assists still with no goals he wins the calder imo.

No doubt he could land with Suzuki and Caufield on the first line. Slaf and Laine as 1B line wingers. However, as we recently learned with Hutson, Demidov will need to earn his spot on the first PP unit. I'd bet it won't be out of camp.

I love what Demidov is going to bring. But, we need to temper some of the early expectations we have of him. He will be 19.

If he keeps this paste without injury it's 55 points in 81.2 games.

Add a little extra here and there and he beats the record.

Very impressive for his size and draft position loll 💪😁

This focus on goals is really quite silly, particularly at this juncture of his career. A point is a point. He contributed to a goal. Would you rather have Lane with 60pts (0g, 60a), or Lane with 50pts (10g, 40a)? What about 20g, 20a? Or 30g, 5a? Who cares about the imbalance other than it being annoying to look at on the stat sheet? He will eventually get goals if everyone and the media stops focusing on it obsessively.

Will tune in tonight to watch him hopefully pot one though :) Calling one back door off a Gallagher feed after Lane sneaks in.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up 62nd overall picks. Only 17 players drafted at 62nd overall have ever even scored a goal, and only 3 of them have scored over 100 goals. David Backes at 248 is the highest. Letang has the most points at 754.

I saw a list the other day showing the players who racked up the most assists before scoring their first nhl goal.

Hutson is now on that list. Former Habs Craig Ludwig holds the record although I'd don't recall how close or far hutson is to him at this point.
 
He might not be scoring goals, but he's generating scoring chances. His teammates are converting them on a regular basis,so I don't really care if he goes his entire career without scoring a goal. In fact, him not scoring this year might be the only thing keeping his next contract from being McDavid-esque.

He would probably be on pace to break it if he would have been use on PP1 sooner
