The main board of HF -- truly a beacon of hockey intellect.

He is incredibly tough to play against because of his physical ability, not strenght, but stamina.

Always up-tempo. Always on the run. Constantly changing direction. Incredibly tough to follow and play against.
Watching him last night I was thinking about what makes him so good.
I can only come up with his Gretzky like quickness in reading and reacting it makes his good first step look great.
He's always a step ahead of everyone else.

Oh yeah, the main board is completely afraid.

They had the dunk on us because Slafkovsky and now Slafkovsky is developing into a rare beast.
They had the dunk on us because Hutson was too small and now Hutson is a respectable height and showing his class is too high to be diminished by a physical limitation.
They had the dunk on us because we passed on Michkov and now we have Demidov.

He is constantly setting up baits, whether through his hips, head or shoulders, selling his false intentions.

The Hutson kid is really dynamic and creates a lot of offense, just needs to be a bit more selective as to when though as there were a bit too many turnovers but improved that aspect as the game went along.

It's always the same Mfers too. There is like 3-4 of them that setup camp full time in any Habs related thread

I agree. I was trying to think of player that was similar and Gretzky is great comparison. The way he just weaves through the ice, not the fastest but yet so elusive. Always seems a step ahead of the play.

And his anticipation and quick stick.

Hutson played well except he still has the same problems. They were on display twice last night.

1) Opposing players can beat him on the outside. Juulsen had the same problem. Even though Lane had three -four steps on a Flyer in the first period, the opponent went around him and had a free lane on the goalie. It started with a pass up the boards from Anderson in the offensive zone
2) His straightaway speed leaves a lot to be desired.

Management might just decide to send him down to the A to work on those drawbacks.
I could not disagree more. He will learn ten times more by being constantly challenged than by playing in the AHL. Not only I don't think he would develop in the AHL but I feel he would regress by playing 2nd tier talent and goons and getting away with his talent. To develop in any sports you have to compete against the best, he has nothing to learn at the AHL level. His skating won't fix itself by playing slower, less talented player he has to get used with NHL pace and more talented players. He will make mistake which is fine but he will learn more.

Kid looked great, I think he will have to pace himself a bit more or he may find himself out of position because I don't know who can keep up with him on the other side.

One mistake, one simple mistake and he cooks you.

There is no physical limitation in the case of Hutson. Only a perceived lack of strenght because of his small weight.

His stamina, the speed at which he plays the game constantly up-tempo is an incredible physical/athletic skill and it distinguish him from the pack. It must be very exhausting to keep the pace with him as his teammate, i don't wanna imagine what it is being his adversary.

Yah somehow Hutson is the only one to receive a negative mention in the training camp standouts thread (apparently his skating ability will make him a defensive liability)

I try not to rain on parades and I don't even think I am but funnily enough when he got that penalty early on, it was pretty much due to what @Estimated_Prophet's been saying all along about skating backwards. It's an issue.

BUUUUUUTTTTT he's too f***ing good. Full stop. I'm sure he'll get burned and exposed plenty of times in his first few years but more likely than not he's got so much fight in him that what errors he'll make in a game, he'll do his damnedest to make it right one way or another.

This is probably a good time to remember that Erik Karlsson has 3 Norris trophies and is genuinely one of the worst defensive players I’ve ever seen
