I think he should be made into a Ribeiro-like forward. That way he won't have to deal with devastating forecheck by 6 ft 4 monsters.
He can QB the PP.
He can QB the PP.
He’s a bit of a unicorn but so is Quinn Hughes. Small blueliners just didn’t exist in the past. But the game has evolved. The obstruction rules are a game changer as is the elimination of the red line and the more offensive game the league is evolving towards. What I'm getting at here, is who, in history, is Lane Hutson's model? I can't think of a single successful player like him at the NHL level in the history of the game. Probably plenty in lower leagues though.
Will Hutson be the first? Maybe
No.I think he should be made into a Ribeiro-like forward. That way he won't have to deal with devastating forecheck by 6 ft 4 monsters.

That doesn’t mean Hutson can skate like Hughes or will be as good but his skating is better than some critics have argued in my opinion anyway. He’s a really smart, competitive, coachable player. The kind of guy who wants to win. And he’s had more offensive success than any other blueliner in NCAA history.
You don’t trade that talent away.
I’d much rather take the risk of his talent not translating than just giving up. If he pans out he’ll be incredible.
No.
You don’t take the all time leading scoring blueliner in history and make him play somewhere else.
You dont believe in this guy?In any case, I hope I'm wrong.
Hutson's risk is much higher than the others.
No one ever answered me this simple question: Name me a single successful offensive defenseman at the NHL level who was as lightweight as Hutson? I mean, ever. Relative to the rest of the league.
There's always a first for everything, but if we can get great value for him, why be us taking this chance?
People can forget about the Habs trading Lane, they wanted to trade up to grab him. They really love him.
It's not that people don't believe in his skills. We are just being cautious before we anoint him as the next big thing (no pun intended). We have time to see how he does outside the NCAA. The AHL will be a huge test for him. I wouldn't consider trading him until we can see what he can do there. I don't doubt at all that he can produce points in any league in the world. You dont believe in this guy?
Have you watched the game clips from @montreal? Hutson’s absolutely unreal.
Maybe I’ll be wrong. But I’d rather take the chance on him and find out.
5’10 is so much different than 5’7. I don’t think we’ll have to hide him at all.The kid is special.. should be apparent when you watch him on the ice.
The question will be, how much do we have to hide him on the ice.. if we have to do a lot of that, then his impact is going to be on the powerplay and whenever its late in the 3rd and you are trying to come back in the game.
If you don't have to hide him, he could be a legitimate superstar.
People wanting to get ahead of him 'busting' due to his size is a laugh for me because those same people are the loudest in saying we need a superstar at all costs, so trade Caufield/Suzuki, kidnap Montembeault and put Keenan Thompson in net.. and the one prospect we have who is showing they have superstar ceiling, they want to get rid of him because he's an inch below what is average height in the NHL and isn't fully filled out yet at 19 years old lmfao.
Cautious? No worries. Trade him away? No thank you. It's not that people don't believe in his skills. We are just being cautious before we anoint him as the next big thing (no pun intended). Height is only one metric. Caufield has 15 lbs on him lol. Also, one is a winger and the other a D. Comparing height alone is disingenuous.5’10 is so much different than 5’7. I don’t think we’ll have to hide him at all.
If teams knew he was going to spout three more inches he’d have been drafted top ten.
He's special, he will figure it out.
So is looking at a 19 year old and assuming he’s always going to weigh 160 lbs.Height is only one metric. Caufield has 15 lbs on him lol. Also, one is a winger and the other a D. Comparing height alone is disingenuous.
What can we expect? 5'10'', 175 lbs?So is looking at a 19 year old and assuming he’s always going to way 160 lbs.
Of course not, but 160 lbs is pretty horrid for a D, even at 19, and that is what he is. People are pegging him to be in the AHL next year. He will get destroyed there at that weight as a D. Where do you see him ending up? and how long will that take?So is looking at a 19 year old and assuming he’s always going to way 160 lbs.
He’ll be 180 by starting night 25-26. Also, I can’t believe I wrote ‘way’ instead of weigh…Of course not, but 160 lbs is pretty horrid for a D, even at 19, and that is what he is. I can live with 180 as a start. He’ll be 180 by starting night 25-26. Also, I can’t believe I wrote ‘way’ instead of weigh…
If he cannot make it as a defenseman, I would definitely try this. It would be a shame if that talent could not find a place in the "Show".I think he should be made into a Ribeiro-like forward. That way he won't have to deal with devastating forecheck by 6 ft 4 monsters.
