Lane Hutson Burgeoning Star Watch

Panarin is a year and a half older than Gostisbehere, and Gostisbehere was in his D+4 season, not sure that Panarin being older has a ton of relevance for that Calder race.

Some of the pushback has nothing to do with that context either, its that Gostisbehere as a comparable to Hutson doesn't really make sense if you spend time watching either player, it seems more like an on paper comparison. And even on paper, Hutson has been less sheltered than Gostisbehere was both in terms of competition, 5v5 ice time and zone starts.

Its definitely not an insult to compare Hutson and Gostisbehere's rookie seasons, its just odd when there are better and more recent comparisons.

Ghost was in his D+5. He was 22 when he started his rookie season and had been drafted 4 years earlier.

Hutson is in his D+3.

Someone said that Hutson's rookie season was good enough to beat Ghost's entire career, so I pointed out that Ghost's rookie season was exceptional and better, so no it wasn't. I don't have a strong opinion when it comes to their playstyle btw, but I do think it has changed with injuries. There was nothing more to my post than to show than Ghost's season was oustanding with 17 goals, 8th in the league for dmen ppg (Hutson currently 9th). I don't think anyone can realistically say Hutson is having a better season but you are entitled to your opinion I guess. I think you and others are underestimating non-habs players by an insane degree.

Stating that I am underestimating non-habs players by an "insane degree" because I'm not convinced by a specific take on a specific player's specific rookie season compared to Hutson's based on exactly two stats says more about you than it does me, especially since the main argument I made was its a bad comparison, not that Gostisbehere's rookie season is bad. I didn't even argue that one rookie season was better than the other.

Hutson still outscores him even at the 64 game mark so that’s clearly not the reason you did it
I don't even know what you're referencing at this point. You'll need to stop being so vague. You realize there was a single 100 points scorer in 2015-2016? Do you not know the higher scoring era we are currently in? You are just looking at their pure point production at face value and taking a victory lap while shunning down any other mention of other offensive rookie defensemen seasons. You can do that if you want but you're being dishonest. I have nothing against Hutson.

Not doing that at all actually

I’m shutting down your statement that Ghost’s rookie season is better than Hutson’s because it’s clearly not true lmfao I’m sorry you cannot defend the position you’ve chosen to take

Nothing vague about what I said, you're feigning ignorance now

Celebrini may end up the better player, but what Hutson has done this year is a level above. That he's steadily improved his defensive game over the course of the season while producing at a ppg pace the last month shouldn't be understated. He'll never be a net-front presence, but his tenacity, puck retrieval skills, and puck stealing skills are being overlooked as part of his defensive game. He's doing all that while playing more than 22 minutes a night.

I like the player that has 2 superstar brothers in the league one of which happens to be a Devil.
For me I'd just prefer to keep the guy I know, it's not silly, it's just a different opinion.

Taryn Tkachuk also has two superstar brothers in the league... do you want the Devils to acquire her?

Why do you value the star-quality of a player's sibling? What does that have to do with anything?

I don’t believe anyone can seriously think something like that 🤔

Well I think it's very true and far from "one of the worst opinion" on a 130 pages thread and I have defended it with very clear evidence. To recap: ton more goals, in a lower scoring era, a much higher percentage of primary points and getting many first place calder votes against a legitimate star player. You can't ignore 17 goals as a rookie defenseman, in a low scoring era, you just can't. That's outstanding. and as of now, the only pushback is from habs fans, so yeah. But as you can see, I think very highly of his rookie season, that should give you a good idea of what I think about Hutson's season too, no? Btw I think him and Reinbacher is going to be a great, if not elite, pair. I was one of the very few non-habs fan who voted for Reinbacher against Nemec and Jiricek on a poll like 2 years ago and it was considered insane at the time, might not end up being too crazy... I'm not a habs hater, and I think Demidov could end up having a similar impact to what Michkov could end up having too.

"very obvious that’s not what you two are doing lmao"
"that’s clearly not the reason you did it"

I found these 2 statements vague, sorry but I think you were insinuating that I was a habs hater. That's my best guess :dunno:

I don’t understand what your opinion about other Habs prospects have to do with this

There is simply no universe where Ghost’s rookie season is better than Hutson’s. If you actually believe that I don’t know what to tell you

So you think Luke Hughes is a comparable talent to Taryn Tkachuk? I think Luke might be a touch better.

Honestly why does it hurt your feelings so bad that a Devils fan wants to keep Luke Hughes over Hutson?
It doesn't make me feel any kind of way about you preferring Hutson over Luke Hughes.

I think you have me confused with someone else. I never even mentioned Hutson in any capacity.

The only thing I was puzzled by was why you care about the siblings of any player on your roster. Why would having "superstar brothers" in the league somehow affect your opinion of Luke Hughes. I don't see the connection.

Sorry totally did mix up posters.

It's because I see the other 2 when I watch Luke.

So you'd assume I'd want to keep the guy that seems like he's going to dominate the league, like his brothers already do.

Also, I do think having 2 Hughes brothers already on the team just might tip the scales on the 3rd joining them.

Because Ghost played less games? It's that simple. Oh and also, difference in scoring between eras.
Ghost playing less games isn't Lane's fault. Lane looks like he will get the whols season in. While Ghost had a great rookie season Lanes has already been better with more to come.
