I think it’d be a more logical move to have him dominate the AHL and focusing on improving his defensive game and removing the warts. Some of the plays he made last night would get most prospects sent down.
Yeah lets just send the top 15 nhl defensemen in points to the ahl. Makes a lot of sense.

Habs aren't exactly competing, though.

For him to have people comparing/saying Quinn Hughes was better as a rookie is a compliment.

He’s a 62nd overall pick. A second round pick. He’s a 5’9-5’10 rookie defenseman. Playing in Montreal. The odds were against him making the NHL just as a second rounder and now he’s bringing excitement back to Montreal. He’s a home run type of player for the Habs, and we are happy with that!

No question Hutson needs work on his defence. Last night's two turnovers led directly to goals-against. But so what? The kid's a rookie who's tearing it up offensively and at the same time working hard on his weaknesses. He was visibly pissed at himself after losing the puck to Rasmussen, and you can see the motivation to learn and improve. The org and the fans seem to be more forgiving of Lane's mistakes than he is.

I always find the comparison shallow. Quinn Hughes #1 calling card is his skating. Everything stems from skating and decision making since his debut. Hutson has elite senses but without elite skating, that is the difference between a #1 and a second pairing guy with defensive warts you have to live with. Hutson will find his own niche, but the comparison is off the mark.
