Hill 7x7m in Utah?

Thompson 6x6m in Washington?

Vejmelka 6x6m in Vegas?

Lankinen 5x5m in Avs? (cap considerations)

Blackwood 7x7m in Detroit?

I have no idea, just throwing out some ideas because looks like a shift in goalies could happen.

I think you’re high on all your amounts (and term for most). $8.25M is non-Shesterkin Vezina dollars. Can’t see paying Blackwood or Hill $1.25M less than all they’ll other elite goalies.

Provided things go solidly in the playoffs, I bet Blackwood ends up in Colorado. 5x$5M is my guess. They get a good youngish starter, he gets to play for a really good team with two of the top 5-10 players in the league. All they’ll need is a bit more depth and they should be competing for a cup most years.

Same goes for Thompson staying in WSH, but again don’t see him getting that much. Cap is increasing and goalie ceiling has clearly increased, but still think it’s a position that isn’t valued. Assuming he gets like 3x$4M id rather take a shot on a guy like Vladar than pay that much for any but Blackwood and Thompson. Veijmelka I think stays in Utah.

I was thinking Peterson Campbell and Grubauer all got 5m deals and the cap is now up and the OP guys are better goalies.

These seem high, across the board. OP, I suspect you value goalies more than NHL teams have shown they value goalies, even with the cap increase that is incoming. Mid-range goalies usually get squeezed.

I fixed it for you. 😉 (Sorry, I can’t get it to bold the text for some reason)

MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar are ALL top 5-10 players in the league imo.

I'd take MacKinnon, Makar, McDavid, Draisaitl, Barkov, Hughes, Heiskanen, Kucherov, M. Tkachuk, Matthews, and Eichel comfortably. I could see arguments for Kaprizov, Point, Kopitar, Crosby, Werenski, Hedman, and Reinhardt. He's a hell of a player though.

Detroit won't go for term on a goalie. Talbot and Lyon are perfectly fine right now, and unless Talbot falls off a cliff by the end of the season, they'll probably do a 1A/1B thing next year.

Cossa's waivers kick in starting in 2026 and then Augustine will be along not too long after that. A UFA goalie would have to be a 1 or 2 or 3 year contract, but not longer than that.

24/25 - Talbot + Lyon ( + Husso ) w/ Cossa + Campbell callups
25/26 - Talbot + ????? ( UFA / Cossa )
26/27 - ????? + Cossa
27/28 - Cossa + ????? ( UFA / Augustine )
28/29 - Cossa + probably Augustine by this point

I also see Washington either extending Thompson or trading for Gibson. Just IMO.

Lol, Detroit is having none of Blackwood at 7x7. They can just re-up Lyon or go with Talbot and Cossa next year. Zero reason for them to sign anything more than a stopgap, if anyone at all.

One of the weird distortions in the goalie market...is that at least a few of the teams that "need goaltending" are already locked in to bad goalie contracts. I'd guess that leads to somewhat depressed prices on the whole, but who knows. Goalies have recently signed enormous deals anyway.

Lankinen in particular seems to have taken a cheaper deal with the right team, in order to get himself the maximum dollars in the summer. So i'd expect him to really cash in.

I'm fine if Vej stays in Utah. Nice little squad to be honest. Would love him in Edmonton to play 41 games with Stu (may the best man win). Carolina would be amazing. Keep him the hell out of Detroit though .. they need a warm body for at least 2 more years and then one of their young guys should be ready.

Canucks should re sign Lankinen.
Rutherford was quite candid about them considering spending cap on goalies so it's entirely possible.

Lanks has been brilliant but I'm not sure I agree with re-signing him. Feels like there are more immediate needs that need addressing before the 1b spot.
