Eh this Calder watch was more fun when both Lane and Casey were duking it out for points as defenseman. Maybe there will be another good defenseman next year for Casey to battle for the Calder with.
Sometimes depth sucks.
Sometimes a player is good enough that you make room for him.

He has been doing good things defensively. He made some costly mistakes but he routinely battles on the boards, hits, blocks shots, does everything nobody expected him to do on top of generating some dangerous chances almost everytime he's out there.
Using advanced stats to judge his play in October of his rookie season is Pejorative Slured and disingenuous. It defeats the entire purpose of compiling those stats in the first place.
Pesce and Hamilton can't be moved and Kovacevic has managed to make him and Siegenthaler one the top top shutdown pairings in the league. Either Kovacevic will come back down to earth or one of them will get injured.
Casey is in the AHL right now while Nemec is sitting in the press box. So I assume Nemec will probably get first dibs if any injury happens.
It's a nice situation to be in depth wise but it was cool having another player battle for the calder like Luke Hughes did last year.
Might have to wait another season to enjoy that feeling again.
MTL generates shockingly few high danger chances with Lane Hutson on the ice.
Pretending the results aren't there doesn't make them go away.
Thats because he is rarely on the ice when the first line is. He has way more minutes with the second line, who is really not working wel so far. So many times he makes a great play and the Josh Andersons of this world just don't see the incoming pass. As i told you so many damn times, you need to put advanced stats into context. If you actually watch his game (you clearly dont) you would notice that he generates quite a lot of offense while being solid defensively for a rookie. From what i see with my own eyes, Hutson is at very least the 3rd best defender for the habs atm and maybe even second best. Their defense sucks overall so that might not mean much.

Which results, advanced statistics with 11 games sample sizes? They mean absolutely nothing.
What i see is Hutson making dangerous passes across the slot as naturally as waking up in the morning, and being so dangerous with the puck that teams have been giving him space instead of playing his tiny body or the puck when he's driving the play to avoid being clowned by him.

Montreal converts shockingly few high danger passes into high danger chances when Hutson is on the ice, and that's because he's usually out there with Dvorak, Anderson, Armia, Gallagher types
So what’s this telling me, that arber alphabet and jayden struble are montreals best offensive defensemen?

He gets 25% of his ice time with Suzuki, and has a sub 40% xGoals share in that time.
They play a high event brand of hockey yes. Truly atrocious defensively tho, which makes sense why in comparison it has made a number of people think Hutson has not been bad defensively.
When your frame of reference is dogshit defensive play for the 4th straight year now I can understand how perception can be thrown off

The individual chance generation and playmaking is great. He is HEAVILY involved in the offense.
The problem is that he is so heavily involved, it does not leave room for his teammates to create. He is creating a very high % of not very much offense because of the way he plays. Holds the puck and tries to create openings there instead of through the cycle game and puck movement.
Not a lot of overall offense for MTL when he's on the ice, but the offense that does occur is running through him.

So you’re going with that? Struble is Montreals best offensive defenseman?
He creates more offence than matheson according to those numbers

That was not my claim at all.
Hutson is the most TALENTED offensively, unfortunately he has not been able to turn that into offensive success for MTL when he's on the ice. If he can figure out a way to combine his individual play with letting his teammates get opportunities to create, it will be better for him and for MTL.
and his defense has been bad. Not as bad as matheson, barron, xhekaj, etc, but not good either.
Matheson has a similar situation to Hutson (especially on the PP for matheson), where he is heavily involved in a not very effective attack.
