"Less bad than the other guys"
Do you expect one player to turn an awful defensive team into a good one by himself? That’s not a thing that happens anywhere.

Anyway, the point is not that he’s an incredible defensive player. It’s that he obviously hasn’t been a liability in his own zone as so many predicted.

MTL is the worst defensive team in hockey.

Being the slightly less worse part of that is not something to be celebrated, especially considering the ridiculous minutes they make Guhle and Matheson play.

Also as a Hutson defender… tonight hasn’t been a great game for him despite the 2 apples and a +2 on the scoresheet. He’s had significantly better games where he ended up with no points and a negative goal differential.

But that’s precisely why the “He’s a -5 he sucks hurrhurr” discourse is so stupid.

So because the team is bad it’s not ok to praise Hutson when he does good things? Makes zero sense

Gonna be a very close race but I expect Hutson will be a finalist for sure
Ya i think hed be a solid bet as a finalist.... should be an interesting race....

Celebrini is a legit threat imo
Wouldnt be shocked if Gauthier starts heating up too, hes been pretty unlucky right now

But he HASN'T been doing good things defensively.

We are praising him for not sucking as much as the others, despite having poor play himself (again, defensively).

No dman on this team (except maybe Guhle considering the ridiculous minutes they make him play) should be praised for their defensive efforts.

Matheson plays tough minutes and is getting TRULY caved.
Guhle plays tough minutes, he isn't winning them but it's admirable and he looks good out there.

Everyone else is not playing tough minutes, and getting various levels of caved in defensively.

Also, MTL may give up more chances with him off the ice, but they actually generate shockingly FEW chances with him ON the ice. If you're gonna use relative to teammates to praise his defense, better be shitting on his offense at the same time

Another doughnut on the board for the kid. Unfortunate, but it's going to be hard to 'secondary assist' his way into Calder contention. Too much competition this year.

Wishing all the best.

Playing like that 1 out of every 3 games is not bad.
Unlike winning 1 series in 2 decades

he’s 2 points behind Michkov and Stankoven as a defenseman with no PP1 time

Yes, he's very INVOLVED in MTL's offense when he's on the ice. He is the possession guy and so lots of assists. (Similar to Matheson in that way), but it's not a lot of offense for MTL being generated with him out there.

Again, I like guys who win their minutes.
