I dont get why people would suggest this, he would just dominate offensively against less effective Dmen. Hes clearly NHL ready and playing well.

Should Michkov or Celebrini go down to AHL cus their teams are awful? Should Bedard have been sent down last season? makes zero sense
Wherever will teach him how to be better positionally, not cheat as much, and be willing to make the simple play.

Things are different for forwards and you know that.

I just don't think playing 20 and sometimes more is going to help in the long run this season especially since he seems to leave everything on the ice each shift.

Pretty good
He kind of got dummied tonight outside of that shift against the 4th line and bottom pair. Wild did a good job of clogging his lanes and making him uncomfortable. Seemed frustrated most of the night and took a rookie penalty late to seal the loss.

Obviously a lot to like in the potential, but clearly still a large work in progress as nearly every defenseman under 22 is. Seems like a smart kid though from my previous viewings, should learn and adapt pretty quickly, but I wouldn't expect greatness for several more years, if he can get there.

you would seriously send Hutson down after all that hes shown so far?? Hes on pace for 50 assists and creates more scoring chances than anyone.

And its not like hes not holding his own defensively, hes on pace for about 120 blocked shots. He obviously has a lot to learn still, just like every rookie Dman ever after 19 NHL games.

Best place to learn your all around game is playing against the best, and not the lesser competition. How many top scoring Dmen in the AHL can barely cut it in the NHL? Theres a ton.... Capobianco, Brad Hunt, Derrick Pouliot, Ty Smith, Trevor Carrick, Mac Hollowell, etc etc.

Unless we were seeing Hutson get bullied around every game, I would agree he would need to mature physically before playing the NHL, but its just not the case.

It’s a difference of where the teams are. Montreal is developing NJ is trying to win now and has changed their style of play from the Ruff era. Hutson wouldn’t play ahead of the veterans right now. That’s not a referendum on him. Casey and Nemec both have tow it their turn. NJ has their defenders biased towards defense right now. Nobody is suggesting Hutson isn’t talented or that he’s not capable of playing in thr NHL.

But thats exactly it, what do Montreal have to lose by playing Hutson all year? Theyre not contenders. Unless hes a train wreck defensively, like Mailloux is/was, why send him down?

One thing I would start to monitor, though, is his minutes, as hes not used to playing 82 games/year. Curious how he'll look after 40-50 games.

Depends on what the coaching is like. Coaches need to get on this kid about making the simple play tand being positionally responsible.

Whether the AHL coaches are better at that, I do not know, but if he builds this current way of playing into habit it's not ideal.

I would absolutely play Hutson if I'm Montreal. I'd hire position specific coaches for the young players. Hutson needs to be taught differently from Guhle for example. I thought the disagreement was with the poster above who suggested that NJ would be wrong to send Hutson to the AHL. While it might not be ideal for Hutson's development it might be ideal for the team to win right now. The two are more Venn diagram than parallel lines. That's not a knock on Hutson it's just the reality of minimizing the growing pains of a young defender. Both Casey and Nemec are in the AHL and both are capable of playing in the NHL. The team loaded up on veterans and changed its approach. Maybe that changes at some point we will see. The luxury Montreal has is that they can live with young players making mistakes and being inconsistent.

He's the second best Dman on his NHL team send him to the minors!!! Fantilli and Carlson as well need to be sent down! Where are their threads with jersey fans bashing them every game?
In the same spot as the "Adam Fantilli burgeoning star watch" thread. Both Fantilli and Carlsson have also had very disappointing starts to the year tho in terms of play driving.

If someone made a thread about Carlssons breakout despite his 35% xGoals share because he was shooting 20% I would be on their ass. And don't tell me it's not possible to stay even on the ducks because he was even last year at around 49%.

The rest of his teammates seem to be doing just fine.
Oh yeah? How are Pesce's offensive numbers?
Excellent even. Pretty frustrating sophomore slump.
Luke is playing the best hockey of his career. He's been rock solid defensively, but unfortunately he's getting really poor puck luck offensively - 2.5% on ice shooting percentage is unsustainably low.

Great idea.

Stop being creative, make the simple play. Stop leading rushes, just play your position.

Why aren't the Canadiens desperately trying to coach out of him all the things that make him special?

Someone needs to pick him up pronto. He’s coming on offensively now. Missed training camp and is learning a new system. Last couple games in Florida he has been creating a lot offensively. It’s coming

He will get claimed right away, he'll never make it to the free agent pile. Idiotic to drop him.

There is a time and a place to cook, and it's not every single time you touch the puck. Learn to pick your spots, and when (eg, like if Jesper Bratt is behind you with him and Jack Hughes on the ice) to focus on making sure you don't get caught up in a bad spot

Its ok because it's advanced stats its not excuses if it's advanced stats
It doesn't seem very advanced to point out that the last time a player played anywhere near a full NHL season and finished with an on-ice sh% of less than 3 was Chris Kelly in 2016.:dunno:

Hughes could be the first one since then to do that, I suppose. Very advanced stuff. Pattern recognition.

I genuinely don't understand the people hating on this kid. He looks great, I think every fan base would be thrilled to have him in their organization. Phenomenal skater, good offensive IQ and skills, can create space. And he's still a rookie, so for the people worried about his defense, look at Quinn Hughes.

Early in his career he was realllllly bad defensively, he's since improved.

I don't even think Hutson is bad defensively tbh, just seems like a lot of salty people upset a Habs player is getting coverage.
