Lane Hutson Burgeoning Star Watch

He is way too small to get hit. Many have tried to hit him and its like he just disappears from their vision and from their reach right before the tackle.

Most people get easier to see and hit the closer you get to them. Hutson is the opposite: the closer you get the less you see of him. It could be the effect of the head fakes, or the body fakes, or stick fakes, or even his newest puck fakes.

He hasnt started his eye fakes yet on the NHL level, but when he does he will become basically impossible to hit or catch or follow or see.

Interesting post considering recent developments, though not involving Hutson. Recently teams have started teeing off on Hughes. I would have anticipated that this is more likely with Hutson since he’s a rookie. If it can happen to Hughes, it can happen to Hutson. It’s probably inevitable. If it happens to Hutson this year, how does he react to it?

To think some people claimed he should be in the AHL because of his 'defensive struggles'.

Guess what, you learn to get better by playing against the best. He is doing exactly that, every game he is looking better defensively. He is very smart with high hockey IQ and that is why anybody that doubted him is eating crow now.

It was pretty noticeable this past Monday that the Canucks were taking runs at hutson and caufield. I particularly recall hutson taking a late hit that even made me flinch.

It turns out he responded with a 3 point effort with his fingerprints all over the game, but I am concerned with the wear and tear over the long haul. Mind you, I was also concerned about him adapting from a soft ncaa schedule to the chaotic nhl schedule, but he's been passing with flying colours to date.

Of course, no way to predict the future and how injuries would factor in the long run, but so far so good.
