Landeskog Practicing w/Team

I don’t watch basketball and can’t appreciate Jokic the way some do. It’s fairly surprising Todd Helton wasn’t mentioned. Jokic isn’t even top 20 for me.
Helton will always be beloved in this town.

But Jokic? He took an all time loser NBA franchise and carried it to a championship. You have to consider that this team had been here since the 60s and never won anything. Jokic finally getting them to the promised land was akin to Elway finally breaking through in Super Bowl XXXII.

He is, this season, having what could be argued to be the best statistical season in the history of the NBA. He is on a five season run that, historically, can only be compared to the absolute best five year runs from Kareem, Jordan, and LeBron. And offensively he's actually considerably better than those guys. But he's a good defender at his best and a below average one at his worst, while those other three were all time great defenders. But his offense is so ridiculously good that he still has an argument against them, and a good one.

If Jokic played for the Lakers he would already be considered a top 5 NBA player of all time. And that's not an exaggeration.

I grew up watching the Pistons, the Bulls, the Celtics and the Lakers. So Jokic would have some very tough competition. Jokic is very good. Maybe great if you consider how he’s a big man. He plays a smart game too.

The more I think of this situation, the more I wonder if MacFarland lied to the public as a misdirection for the rest of the NHL? I say this because a reporter specifically asked about Landeskog during the TDL State of the Team address. In his answer to the question, CMac didn't come out and say it, but he did imply that because Gabe hasn't skated all season, he probably will miss an entire year again. Then, not even a whole week later, his documentary came out and he's been skating almost every day. I am not saying that he and Landeskog talk on a day-by-day basis, but Chris had to know his documentary was coming out, that's too big to keep hidden from the Avs organisation.

Avs Captain misses 3 consecutive seasons, and his highly anticipated return is with the Colorado Eagles. Makes sense...
Is he gonna play in a game with the Eagles, or just practiced with them?

Never mind, just saw what Bednar said. I’m fine with it. Get him in game shape before the playoffs

I think he was simply referring to the fact that he wasn't planning on making moves and roster changes to activate Gabe this season... he was/is more than content to just have him activated for S1G1.

You really can't make this shit up. What kind of horsecrap does Martin Lind have on Stan Kroenke?

His return can’t be anywhere but Ball Arena for a home playoff game. It just wouldn’t be right.

I know right?

Look, there isn't a single person in the AHL that will hit him as hard as players in the NHL.

A couple of points I make:
1. There is a lot more RECKLESS play at the AHL level.
2. We are talking about a beloved Captain, whose last game ended with him skating the god-damned Stanley Cup. You really want me to support his first game back as an Eagle? f***-off!! I want nothing to do with it.

I'm not sure how involved the NHL actually was here, but it would need to run directly through them. Rights holders like TNT/Max probably need to get special permission to broadcast any non-game programming that wasn't expressly listed in the rights deal. I mean... the doc is not littered with NHL trademarks and copyrighted footage. There's no way the they and the Avs didn't know about the documentary--and unless the producers were reckless, they likely put it on the league's radar well in advance.

I just think CMac, who's pretty good at giving answers without giving substance, just treated the situation with caution, especially after a couple setbacks and thwarted expectations the last 2 years. While it seems like there's been amazing progress in the past month or so, it would be prudent to be conservative in public statements. Things probably are STILL a lot more day-to-day than we realize.

Yeah, the reckless play, and the AHL heroes going out of their way to take runs at him, when his reactions may not be sharp yet is a bit of a concern IMO.

If a game with the Eagles derailed his NHL comeback somehow it would be tragic.

Watched episodes 2-4 last night. Fascinating... but I have a feeling the real emotions aren't going to start until the finale (EP5) and won't be fully realized until which ever game he steps back into on NHL ice, whether that be Ball or on the road. In some ways, it might be easier for him to have his first game back be openining a series on the road rather than at home. Seems there would be less pressure and demands on the visiting team than the home team from media, etc... Which should allow him to more fully direct his focus on his game and the team rather than the hoopla surrounding the event.

You really think this organization is going to bring Landy back on an away game? I just can’t see it happening but that’s purely a guess on my part.

If Landy plays couple of games on the Eagles for conditioning, would that really be his official return? It would just be more like a practice IMO. His official return will still be the 1st game with the Avs
It just seems a dis-service to the man. He's not an AHL player. He's never been an AHL player. Do not assign him to the AHL for games. Sure... you want him to not travel and keep practicing... loan, loan, loan all you want. Do NOT dress him for that franchise, unless you plan on playing him there for awhile.

Again for me, it's a combination of respect for the player on top of the fact that there is nothing to see at the AHL level that you do not also see at the NHL that leads me to the conclusion that it's just a bad a idea.

Something I'm going to die on a hill about? No. Something that would probably always smart a bit... yeah.
