Post-Game Talk: Oilers lose Duck Hunt

Welcome back to the halcyon days of Chiarelli.

When you’re scouring the AHL and Europe for undrafted fringe talent because your talent cupboards are bare and you’ve f***ed up the cap, you know you’ve arrived at those Glory Years of 2018.

Next up, signing an oversized mediocre Finnish goalie to a $5M x 4 contract to know the train has left station for good.
I actually think THAT mediocre Finnish goalie would probably be the best option as the #1 right now, were he on the roster.

What's happening right now is what always happens when the Oilers slightly struggle: the fanbase cannibalizes itself, the players, the coaches, and the management. This fanbase is chalk full of loudmouth piss babies who aren't happy unless they're whining about something, and the Oilers having the 2 best players in the world and their best defenseman out to injury is apparently a good enough reason for those fans to throw tantrums about the owner for some reason.

It's like clockwork, the Oilers struggle, the piss babies come out in full force complaining about every possible thing you can imagine, and when the Oilers do well, they disappear to yell at the neighbors kids for playing outside or some other miserable shit like that.
Yup. Well said. Like clockwork.

That's why you have to react when it happens, not after the fact.

Chased him around and "offered to fight him", just silly nonsense.
or you dont take no for an answer and start pummelling him anyway, its not about individual retribution only, its about sending a message to the teams in the playoffs that the team will respond when they need to. Hopefully frederic and kane are healthy soon cause this team is kinda p***yes when they arent

They have not been good all season, even when McDavid, Draisaitl, and Ekholm were healthy...

You can see Perry remind himself numerous times when Gudas is being a troll with the cheap shots (after the suspension worthy hit) that Perry can't do that because 1) the Oilers are already shorthanded and 2) he has the playoffs to worry about (and Gudas doesn't).

Instead of petitions to cancel Gretzky by a few lunatics, perhaps put up petitions to get rid of an enabler and his clown boss , who came in and dismantled a championship roster. The level of incompetence is astounding. Boo the right people. Not the wrong ones.
I’m quite capable at booing many people at once ;)

100% agree, if nurse isnt going to do it (i get it hes playing good hockey and with no ekholm the team needs him) but if im max jones who is a borderline roster player wants to earn his respect from teammates etc go punch mctavish in the face
And all of the oilers media is praising how the oilers responded....

Years ago we played San Jose and a big stay at home defensemen of theirs head shotted one of our guys. A young Darnell Nurse obliged him to fight and beat the snot out of an unwilling opponent.
Years later, Nurse has matured and I think didn't like the negative attention that incident got him. This time he politely asked for a fight.

I could have sworn it was Radko Gudas years ago, but it was someone else.... similar type player.

*Roman Polak... had to look it up.

Are you thinking of Roman Polak? Nurse basically jumped him and broke his nose.

Edit: beat by the edit.

The usual, one trick pony, if you can’t adapt to your players and the opposition, you’re not going to last long.

Was gonna save this for after we get eliminated, but I wonder how much is Knoblauch, the Oilers add an analytics team and give them a voice and all of a sudden we’re playing a deny entry, quick exit, stretch passes and pile in shots on offense gameplan. And run it into the ground so every team knows how they can beat us, deny the crease, pinch at the stretch passers to get turnovers and odd man breaks and waltz in uncovered as a second or third trailer.
Yup well said. I agree

Well, they are still 6 points up on the Flames so the probability of finishing out of the playoffs is small. Drai may have to come back (even less than 100% healthy) to make sure they get there and I don't think that's wild exaggeration. He has saved the season because without him the Oilers would be out of the show come April 16th.

So make the playoffs and start the post season on the road. Win the first game in (probably) L.A. and suddenly its a new lease on life. I think that all 4 guys--Mc-D, Drai, Kane and Frederic will probably not be 100% healthy for the rest of the year but in the playoffs lots of guys all over the league are banged up. These guys are winners and know what's required. I have faith in them. As for the plumbers on the team well they are what they are. No use in asking a Shetland Pony to run in the Kentucky Derby.

I still like the boys chances in round 1. I am going to say a 60% chance of advancing to round 2.

Honestly them limping in might not be a bad thing. This team doesn’t start well when they are all healthy and comfortable. Their track record in game 1’s speaks for itself. Maybe this situation forces them to get it together. Can’t really be worse.

No finish... no goaltending.

Story of the season.

Yep, this script could have been written with 29 and 97 playing. I think it has this year before against the Ducks too.

Own the play, don't score, do incredibly stupid and preventable things to create chances for the opposition, get zero saves. Game over.

Bang on the money.

The psyche of the team is "it don't come easy." With their backs against the wall they tend to find something extra. And of course they have a habit of losing game 1 in the series so lose on the road in L.A. and its not a big deal. As I said in my earlier post, I give them a 60% chance of going to round 2.

Funny that they were in 3rd place in the overall standings going into the 4 nations Cup. 3rd overall in the NHL not good enough for you?
And now they're in 10th place, tied the St. Louis Blues. A team that was openly mocked on this board for poaching our young talent. This team also has a very low number of wins in regulation. There's virtually no 3 on 3 in the playoffs.

They were tied for 3rd in the league until Feb 21st. I don't think your comment is accurate.
If my comment isn't accurate, then yours is misleading. Tied for 3rd until February 21? They held onto that spot for a blip of time after another bad start to the season and then came crashing down. They had a good stretch in January and February, I will give you that. But even bad teams have good stretches and that there is a possibility, even a small one, that they might not make the playoffs shows just how sub-par they have played the last two months. I don't think they are a bad team. But they are wildly under-performing their expectations.

He didn't say"they aren't playing good now"

He said they haven't played good all season. They were 3rd. So, the statement is false. Can't wait for your next misdirection.

Are you going to do the Canucks thing now? Hang a banner that says "3rd in the league in February 2025." If they were to miss the playoffs, would you still be happy that they were 3rd in the league at one point? lol, ridiculous.

Fine. Change my original statement to "tied for 3rd, February 21"

Problem solved.
