7 straight wins. That actually impressive. I thought the Wings were dead last but they’re *checks notes* 10th. Incredible!
It takes time to undo the damage of the first 35 games.

You think that now. After 5 years of first round exits you’ll be singing a different tune.
That's a later problem.

I'd add that coaches can also learn, get better, or find the right fit just like players. Some haters said McLellan would run extremely boring defensive systems and the Wings have probably not looked this good offensively in close to a decade.

This part, I don't get it, wings D has been pretty dynamic and Seider seems to have had the leash removed.

I do think TM had a convo with Chiarot though about what exactly his lane is, Chiarot seems to be much more in a supporting role mindset now and not trying to lead the play every damn time he touches the puck.

This is the best I’ve seen him as a wing. My big complaint about Chiarot/Seider as a pair is that Chiarot would try and play as the offensive puck rusher and not defer to Mo enough.

McLellan is probably the coach the Wings need at this point in time to take them up a level, but eventually they'll have to find somebody else to take them up another level. Just ask the Kings.
Or he learned from his mistakes and is comfortable behind a bench of a team he’s coached before and won a cup with. Gee, I dunno. Ask the kings tho. Such a terrible argument seeing how each roster was and is constructed massively different.

Yeah, no. We saw McLellan plenty in the Pacific and it is a wonder that he lasted as long as he did. Just give it a year or two and Wings fans will be sending in cardboard boxes so that he can pack his personal effects.

Sour grapes is a great treat every morning. I’ll take my opinion over a LA hockey fans opinion all day. Remember where ya came from and whose fanbase knows a tad bit more about puck ;)

It's amusing...It's as though the Kings as a whole failed due to McLellan being behind the bench...The players had nothing to do with it

Not to say or predict this will happen with McLellan, but Barry Trotz and Joel Quenneville are two coaches who were head coaches for over a decade each, with very pedestrian playoff records, that were viewed as "not being able to figure it out".... until they figured it out. It happens.

Playoff record is probably the last thing to really judge a coach by. It's also at most a secondary concern. Kind of the same when a player like Mitch Marner is discussed. He's not a great playoff performer yet, but if you're a Detroit of course you go after him if he's available and worry about winning in the playoffs later.

Yeah, Quenneville always comes to mind when I hear about coaches who can’t get over the hump. There are a couple other coaches who were in that camp who eventually got to hoist it as well. It’s not uncommon.

Yeah, and people forget that the playoffs are just a snapshot of a guy’s career, coach or player. Sometimes coaches just run into a hot goalie or team. Sometimes a player is injured, under the weather, or just unlucky. I remember people saying Zetterberg and Datsyuk were “too soft” to lead the Wings to a Cup. 2 SC finals later…

and Paul Maurice has been a head coach in the league for 27 seasons(!) and just won his first Cup as recently as last year

What team did he coach that went onto great playoff success after he left? Like he was holding them back?

We'll give him a pass for the Sharks(Leafs West).

After T-Mac, the Oilers lost in the Qualifying round of 2020, lost in the first round, then made the conf. final and got dusted. Was this all MacLellan roll-over?

Where did the Kings go in the Playoffs last year with their "new coach" bump? Most search results suggest it was a first round exit, but after ridding themselves of Todd MacLellan, how can this be?!

For sure, look at how they leaped to the top of the standings after Mac got removed. I hope they didn't get altitude sickness on their way to 3rd in the Pacific Division.

I mean the same could be said for Lalonde and the Wings roster, no? Coaching obviously has an impact on how a team plays but it isn't some magic bullet that will solve all woes like fans will claim when they are unhappy with how their team is playing.

True - however McLellan had a proven track record prior to becoming the Kings head coach whereas Lalonde was a rookie head coach...I never expected the Wings current roster to make the Cup Finals, but at least be in the running for a Wild Card spot which was clearly not gonna happen this season...In fact I was one of many Red Wing fans who wanted him gone this past summer (if not this time last season - Lalonde never gave me any impression of competence while behind the bench in Detroit).

Paul Maurice would like a word with you in private...

Oh look, another one of Axl's alt accounts.

Everyone wanted Jon Cooper fired after the 2019 sweep

Coaches are bad in the playoffs until they aren’t
