He sucks.

Teams usually get better after he leaves. I know that’s the case for most teams unless they’re just really bad, but my point still stands.

I wonder if they were afraid the Rangers were gonna grab him first? The Rangers always have to hire the biggest name available, which is why Knoblauch is in Edmonton. Except for the brief “Re-tooling” period where they had David Quinn.

McLellan is probably the biggest name available that doesn’t have a job, other than Gallant (who they just had and last coached there) and a few other guys I can’t even think of because they haven’t been a head coach in the league in forever. Claude Julien is an assistant in St. Louis now.

Todd McLellan once said the reason for an afternoon loss on the east coast on “we’re basically playing a 10:00 AM game” when he was with the Sharks.

Despite the fact the team had been in the time zone for days and had already played multiple games in it on that trip before that one.

Personally I would have loved Q and think is involvement in the Hawks scandal was overstated - not going to argue this just stating where I am coming from.

But, Chris Ilitch unceremoniously fired a legendary employe and 40 year Zamboni driver Al Sabotka for pissing in a drain in the zamboni room. There is no way he is taking on the Q baggage.

Sabotka's firing screamed that he had either done something worse and they no longer wanted association, or he was a pain in their ass and they wanted to get rid of him.

Seriously doubt they care about him pissing in a drain. If they gave two shits about public opinion, they wouldn't have signed Reimer or Watson.

I don't think it's Yzerman making excuses so much as fans.

This is a guy who has repeatedly said "build through the draft" signing a bunch of shit plugs during the offseason to 1 and 2 year deals. Everybody can keep saying he's trying to compete but the reality is he's buying time for the kids he drafted.

People can argue against that approach, but to pretend that's not what he's doing is ignorant.
At some point you have to start seeing results. You can’t just give him a blank slate for 10 years waiting for stuff to happen.

When you were a legendary player in the organization you get a long leash... The leash gets even longer when you realize he started with Anthony Mantha as his 2nd best player and Zadina and Veleno as his top prospects.

The roster will be going through a massive overhaul and youth movement in the next two years. Yzerman knows that, which is why he signed plugs to nothing deals.

Now, if they still suck after that, he'll have run out of excuses to ownership.

Lalonde is pretty bad though. This might actually be an upgrade.

And I’m sure Lalonde pissed everybody off in Tampa after going on Canadian national TV and talking about how they had to compensate for Vasilevskiy’s weaknesses by running a certain defensive scheme to guard him from point shots lol.

So he won’t be going back there next year if I had to guess.

You are probably right, but either way no way Chris I would take on Q.

It would appear maybe he wont, otherwise I don't know why you wouldn't hire him. He's the best free coach out there.

But he definitely doesn't have a problem employing players with negative public perception.

And let's be honest, Q is a much better coach than Bowman is a GM, but somehow Stan is already back and Q is still unemployed.
