One thing about Todd I’ll say is he can help get a struggling franchise to the next level - which is playoffs - but he gets outcoached when he gets there. However at this point I think Wings fans would be happy just making the playoffs.

If the Wings do manage to turn things around it’s unfortunate timing. With the resurgence of the Lions, the Wings in the playoffs will be far from front page news in Detroit.

There is alot of good and bad with the koala.
I am sure sharks and oilers fans will say similar things.

The biggest thing is the Kings were incredibly streaky. Winning or losing

There would have been much worse choices IMO, hiring McLelland was a solid choice tbh.

Mildly hot take:

This is not a bad move. McLellan knows how to build a team. He got the Oilers into the playoffs and then did the same with LA, both after rebuilds.

His issue is he can’t get teams over the top to take the next step.

But if you’re Detroit you need to make the playoffs first. Worry about the next coach later.

We were bad enough that the fan base would've quietly bitched about Q and then shut up when the results came in...

Should've just pulled the trigger.

it's too bad all the experts here (who are prob delivering amazon boxes right now) aren't GMs. Probably would be zero losses for every team.

Not a terrible hire imo.

The Wings desperately need some type of team structure. McLellan might be boring as shit tactically, but he's the ideal guy for that type of job imo.

He's not going to be able to fix three of his top 4 defenseman being Justin Holl, Erik Gustafsson and the corpse of Jeff Petry, but he can probably make them look better.

I agree, but I think both Edmonton and LA had better players than Detroit.

I look at this Red Wings roster and I don't see much.
