Most NHL coaches are recycled bums. McLellan is at least a competent coach, which is already more than Lalonde.

I think McLellan is good for getting a team in the playoffs. But he can’t do much once he gets there.

I think he’s particularly bad with young players as well.

Detroit kind of in a weird spot. They do need to make the playoffs though. So McLellan makes some sense. I think they waited too long to make a move this year so its kinda pointless for this year anyway.

Surprised it took them this long. Tied with the Preds for 2nd worst DIFF in the NHL. I know the Wings don't have an all-world roster, but what they do have should be doing better.

As for the new coach -- wth are the Wings thinking? I guess the pickins are slim right now.
