Speculation: LAK GM Search

Out of that list it's more about who I don't want:

Marc Bergevin
Pat Brisson
Nelson Emerson
Mike Futa
Cammi Granato
Èmilie Castonguay
Jarmo Kekäläinen
Ray Whitney

Hard pass on all of these.

Probably the same list for me. I'm all about an outsider/new blood choice, but I don't want anyone currently in the VAN front office. They seem like a mess right now so Granato and Castonguay wouldn't be a choice for me. Also not sure I'd want the guys in Dallas just due to those split roles. Feels like you're telling us they aren't ready if they can't handle all an Assistant would typically do.

Nope.

Don't want either, but I'd take Bergevin over Holland.
True, but still really want to see serious consideration for Mark Janko(Dallas)or Mathieu Darche (Tampa), Really like how Dallas plays
Been really hoping for one these guys since really thought the would been cleaned after last years debacle..
Really like to what Yannetti could do with a guy like Darche. Also Futa, but I do wonder what his style of play and philosophy would be. Would he have his own or would it be more inline with what Dl did.

Yes. I agree with Tio

That War & Peace thing was a perfect example of a moment where everybody talked about something Lombardi did as being brilliant and groundbreaking and visionary and I just scrunched up my nose and said "that's the dumbest thing I ever heard"

I’m surprised at this opinion given your love of quoting esoteric philosophers to help us fans cope through the ups and downs of the season.

I dont hate Bergevin, I think he gets shit on by one of the toughest markets in the league. His teams have made it a lot deeper in the playoffs than most GMs. There's better candidates out there but I dont think he's the worst.

But what you just described, the Mailloux draft, is another reason why I wouldnt mind him. A GMs job should be building a team that wins hockey games. If other GMs undervalue a player because they're worried about the hurt feelings brigade, go get that player so long as he's legally allowed to play and isnt going to harm the locker room
If teammates are put off by said player, it is in fact harming the locker room.

For me it was a tell that DL was a tactician and a student of how successful franchises operate. He studied NFL franchises that were constantly winning Superb Owls and realized a lot of it comes down to winning culture and identity. Also if I remember correctly, he was trying to get inside the mind of Frolov to see what made him tick, so he read the slog that is War and Peace. I would've gone for the Brothers Karamozov myself but whatevs.

In 2017 they just promoted everybody from within, eight years later and the results have been horrible.

As a results oriented person, who thinks sports is the ultimate results oriented business, it’s shocking that guys like Emerson and Yannetti are under consideration for promotions. Based on the results the last eight years they should be under consideration for lunch with Bob Sugar.
Well, if a bunch of national security officials can get promoted immediately following 9/11, I suppose anything is possible. Yes, I went there.

If that's a What We Do In The Shadows reference then Bravo (said in my best Laszlo accent)
Where does Bertram Gilfoyle rank on your list of your greatest philosophers?
