Speculation: LAK GM Search

Luc is too much of a narcissist to hire a guy who he feels could be a threat to his power. He’d rather sink the team and milk more years than get creative or do what’s best.

This is the problem with hiring a lot of ex players as GM’s etc. Most of these guys have no experience in management and haven’t earned it like Luc and Blake. It’s like hiring a guy who is good at sales as the CEO of your multi-million dollar company instead of looking at candidates who have gone from Sales to Middle Management to Upper Management. You learn along the way and develop skills. Some turn out fine if they have innate talent but Luc is just a grifter.

It’s going to be hilarious watching Luc run a GM search. Keep in mind this is his first time. This is going to expose his lack of vision for the fatal flaw it has been since day 1 of being in charge.

And get this, it’s going to be a team effort. Blakey left a stellar team in place and they are going to help find the best possible candidate. You just have to ignore that most of the team is gunning for the GM job. Because they might lose their current gig if a new voice gets installed.

The big problem is there are no legitimate candidates available that could be a consensus choice. There are no Lombardi’s or Gortons available. But even if there were a builder type GM available, Luc ain’t trying to rebuild. It’s an impossible situation.

A safe choice is obvious. The wild card could be contract term. Most new GMs want a 5 year deal. I could see a lower tier candidate getting elevated if they are willing to take a short contract.

Lol. Of course you don't understand the difference between drunk driving and domestic violence...
He wasn't even drunk driving. He was driving recklessly (and in my opinion he should have been imprisoned).

But either way, yeah. Always interesting when people downplay or casually accept wife beating.

When I talked to Luc in the offseason, he compared the Kings to Dallas.

So that might make some sense.
Except Dallas drafts better, develops better, trades better and has a real head coach. So how are LAK similar (directed toward luc)?

He's throwing more names out. Brisson's looking like a no go.

Judging by Hoven looking for more external names, I get the feeling he thinks it will be an external hire. So I'm not sure Emerson and Bergevin are the most likely. For what it's worth of course.

He's still lobbying for Yannetti. I frankly told him, since GMs are hired to be fired, I'd rather the Kings not promote him so he can still stay in a major role for a longer time.

But other names he's thrown out (not that he's the first to suggest them):
Darche - he doesn't think he has enough experience
Mark Janko seems popular, but also mentioned some high profile GMs with experience:
Bob Murray
Brian Burke
Doug Wilson

Spoilers: it's still pretty much guesswork. My biggest takeaway from the article is it feels more likely that it's someone outside the org is going to be brought in.

It's just propaganda to make it look like there was a real GM search before circling back around to the "best" option.

You could be right. I'm just circulating another article.

It's all speculation. Nobody should take it as gospel.
That's cool.

Don't see Luc going after an older experienced GM. He hired Blake so he'd have influence over decisions. Someone like Lou or Holland aren't going to listen to Luc. Bergevin is his friend so there's an exception.

Dubas seems like a possibility if the King's decide to collect ex leafs like Marner. He seems to go for a type of hockey aligned with Hillers ideas. That would exclude guys like Hextal & Fletcher.

Do we want the best GM possible or do we want the GM who will get Luc fired? Also, if the GM gets Luc fired, with they destroy even more assets?

What we want is a GM that is strong enough to make Luc irrelevant. The notion of every decision being a team one, especially the recruitment of the GM being a team decision is BS. Beckerman should maybe have a say but that’s it IMO. Nobody should become making decisions on their new boss.
