Any highlights(cell phone clips) of the shootout? Kupari, Thomas and Madden all scored.

Glad Byfield and the other " under agers " are getting AHL experience.

European and College players can play in the AHL under 20 i don't see why CHL players can't either.

It's an agreement the NHL made not to "poach" young, talented players.

Without it, the teams can draft Arthur Kaliyev, and where he would be a star in OHL, would cost the league ticket revenue and hurt Hamilton losing him, just to bury him in the AHL. So, the NHL said "if we're taking your players, it's because they are playing in the NHL."

With Europe, there used to be a European transfer agreement where teams received financial compensation. However, Russia decided not to re-negotiate that agreement. They didn't think the NHL was paying enough while Europe was acting as a developmental league. Once Russia backed out, the rest of Europe followed suit. Teams can still "loan" players to Europe, but now players essentially have their own autonomy.

With NCAA, it's strict. No professionals can play college hockey. So the moment a contract is signed, a player is considered "professional" and he can't play in the NCAA. That's why some players spend a year in the BCHL or AJHL, and avoid the CHL route - they are also considered pros in major junior. Since the players have no recourse, they have AHL or NHL as an option.

You might have already known all this. But just for those who didn't.

I would love some sort of financial compensation for CHL teams and in return have one or two exemption spots per NHL team in which to send prospects to the AHL.

How about they let 18 year olds pursue their professional careers at their own speed and not worry about trying to prop up a league that can't support itself without not paying it's players?

...or maybe the NHL and NFL should pay for their own developmental leagues instead of getting it done for free by colleges and team owners who can't affort to pay 16-22 year olds.

I saw a report by John Hoven that said 7-10 days, with the last update from the Coach calling it day to day.
Ontario Reign Update: Byfield Injury Status, Projected Lineup for Sunday

Following the game, coach John Wroblewski said Byfield was a “little nicked up” with a lower body injury, classifying it as “nothing serious.” While the status of Byfield remains day-to-day, from what we’ve gathered, he is expected to be out about 7-10 days.

Nothing too serious then, good to hear

I completely agree.

Jesus christ those shootout goals by Madden and Kupari were disgusting. Especially Kupari changing his skating to make the goalie hesitate like that. f***ing awesome.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. I think the NHL, AHL and ECHL should operate much more as a single business ecosystem than they do. There are two separate players unions that cover three different leagues.

Professional sports in general have evolved into a sort of chaotic mess from my perspective.

Not nearly enough collaboration/negotiation between leagues/PAs, you would imagine they could accomplish a lot with even a simple offseason summit, but they just draw agreements like neighbors put up fences and then leave it at that.

IMO Madden, Kupari and Fagemo are under that top tier of prospects we have (Byfield, Turcotte, Kaliyev). I am really hoping on at least one of them to be a surprise and jump into that tier.

I'm bummed Byfield is banged up, but take a quick look around:

Lafreniere, one of the most NHL ready prospects we've seen in a while, has 0 points and -3 in 6 games with NYR (he's "looked" good, to be fair--and the production will come).
Stutzle has a goal--but he's struggling mightily to the point where their fans are ready to get him out of the situation and into the AHL or Germany again quickly.

Pretty glad we have an organization that's patient and layered enough to not just throw these kids to the fire and as we discussed it's a cautionary tale about prospect expectations.

With covid strinking and a couple of players likely headed to i.r., could we call up Quinton for his cup of tea?

May be a good idea to get him in a few games with the thought of getting him some experience in the event that we make a playoff push.

May not be the worst idea. Blake and Co. is going to need to reconfigure this main roster after everything that happened this last half of the week. Although, I'm not sure what's the status on Turcotte, because I would think he would be the next center in line.
