Meanwhile, I'm more surprised that Quick didn't have a NTC

A 10 year deal for a goalie that kicked in at 27 years of age is enough of an inherent NTC. A goalie either plays or he sits. You can't move him down a line or a pairing. Change his role to a PKer or checker. No playing with his minutes. Can't bring him in every game for the last 10min like a closer in baseball. He's in, or on the bench.

The only way the Kings trade him is he sucks, and if he sucks, he's not playing, and if he's not playing, nobody is taking that contract with any significant term left.

Did Columbus actually want Quick or is his cap high enough that even retainage on Gavrikov and Korpisalo wouldn’t have gotten this deal into LA’s cap structure?

Oh the horror for Johnathan. Being garbage and getting paid millions, must be tough. Trades happen in sports right?

Getting traded after 18 years in the organization and close to retiring. So much class from LA management.

You can understand that? Can you?

Or because he's millionnaire he can't be sad and disapointed?

As a huge fan of the Kings for over 30+ years, let me suppress my rage and try and tell you calmly that you don’t know understand the the nuances of how devastating this is emotionally to the fan base and the leaders in that locker room. Trust me, listen to the fans of this team when we tell you that this is the most despicable treatment of a team legend that is on our Mt Rushmore of All Time Kings.
We should wait for the news and a statement from the front office before we react.

Remember , per Blake; Brown, Kopitar, Carter Quick and Doughty were Kings for life unless they wanted out. Carter did and he is a Penguin.

It is entirely possible that Quick wants to start games and move up the ranks for wins by American born goalies or even play beyond this year. I could be entirely wrong, but we should really wait before grabbing our torches, pitchforks , and Tickle Me Elmo dolls

LA did Quick dirty.

Not really. Quick was freaking awful this year. 3.50 GAA and a .876 save percentage? He was a big negative for the team and a loadstone. No one should sympathize for Quick when his performance was this disgusting.

Quick needs to put away the hankie and take personal responsibility for why the Kings had to trade him for a better goalie.

Always boggles my mind that people have any sympathy for athletes when they are traded while getting paid millions to play a child's game.

Yes, hockey is a business, but a proper business manager also manages people and expectations. Getting your entire staff angry is not great for moral and usually isn't a good managerial tactic. A good manager would have talked with Quick and other team leaders before the trade to get some buy-in from everyone, and the fact that there is talk players were really upset on the flight back home after hearing the news tells me this didn't happen.
Yeah, and there will also be a significant portion of the team that know this is the most competitive league in the world and want to win. They understand and embrace that this is the NHL not daycare for babies.

Based on rumors around Gavrikov this price seems really low for both him and korpi.

With Orlov and Ekholm hitting the trade market, it changed the supply & demand equation for guys like Gavrikov and Chychrun and perhaps others.

CLB is lucky to have been able to get that 1st rounder, especially from a team who may be picking higher in the draft than BOS or some other teams if LA doesn’t make it to the Conference or Cup finals.

So, with Quick’s 3.50 GAA and .876 save percentage, you care considerably less about the Kings having a legit run in the wide open west just to be nice nice to your icon who is old and having a horrible year?

Agreed. I know Gavrikov's play has been polarizing this year but on a better team I expect him to thrive. He's absolutely a rock solid second pair guy. And Korpi has been legitimately good this year - although goalies are fickle and he hasn't exactly been consistent in his career.

I don't think this deal puts LA "over the top" out West but it puts them square in the thick of things.
