It's amazing how under the radar the Kings are on this site

That's because all the clowns on the main board just lie in wait for reasons to talk **** about the Kings. So if the Kings are playing well, silence. Kings playing poorly or commit a questionable penalty, it's pile on time. It's alright, I've been to 2 parades over the last 3 years, so kiss my ass y'all!

Well, a lot of the criticism is directed at the best and the worst players. We probably wouldn't be ragging on Kopi's offensive play so much if we wasn't such a skilled player. Defensively he's aces. Offensively, he's been better.

Just looking at the team stats after 10 games is crazy. Some things you wouldn't really expect, per se, like Lewis being -3, Shore (tied with Ehrhoff) at -4, Toffoli shooting 34%, Brown with far and away the most shots on the team at 39 (next closest is Doughty at 28 and Carter at 26, 3/4 of the roster is under 20), Lucic with only two goals but they're both game winners, etc...

Just illustrates our usual narrative about needing more from the bottom six's all around game, and more offense from the Kopitar line.

I love it. I'm glad we're under the radar, more fun and easier that way, but it's funny how hard people have to bite their tongues until we do something bad or struggle

Ehrhoff gets injured on a bad hit and "it's not even a two minute penalty" is pretty much par for the course, so we may as well collectively get over it and just marinate over here.

I'm not really MAD at Kopitar or his line, I just think he needs to do more than be neutral matchup guy.

Can't say I'm mad either, you just don't really know what to think. I'm still amazed they outscored the Hawks and beat the Rangers with 0 goals from Kopitar. Last year, with a career low in goals and shots in a full season, they were right there for a spot until the last week, but it was just an odd year all around for the whole franchise.

I keep thinking back to when he was scoring goals and all, and he was obviously one of the few guys on the team that could do it. Since then, they've added Carter, and Toffoli, and Gaborik. Of course in the 2014 playoffs, Williams also joined in the crazy fun. Lucic seems like he's finding his place. Pearson helped in the 2014 playoffs as well. So they've added more goal scoring talent over the years.

Maybe they don't need 25 goals from Kopitar anymore with the way they play as a team when they're playing well. Maybe they ask him to be a decoy in some fashion. Maybe he can't do it anymore, what with a lot of miles on him from a couple deep playoff runs, and a lot of important minutes all over the ice in previous seasons. Maybe as long as he's not hurting them defensively, he can do his thing, and wait until any winger on his line starts scoring to put up a few assists.

I'm with Kings '76, Put Andy on the first line. Need someone with finish up there. Haven't had time to read through the thread, I'm guessing. :) Not totally joking.

Lewis is heating up!!!! Great play realizing he has 0 chance to finish that play and passes the puck to someone who can!!! Great play by skating hard and holding on to adjust the angle to get the puck through. Good job Lewis!

Love the OT strategy. Doughty shuts down the 1 v 3 comes up with the puck like it's nothing and Carter's cherry picking. Just ask the best defensman in the game to win it for you.

I love this team. Lucic gets a sweet pas from Toffoli a game or 2 ago, now I see a bunch of people (Lewis) trying it.

Muzzin, (about 1:30-1:10 left in the first period) has Carter 8 feet away, wide open for a one timer, if the pass is too slow or off the mark Carter would still be one on one with the goalie. and Muzzin shoots.... It's ok to pass the puck to one of the best shots on the team Muzzin.

Depth scoring showed up at the right time.

Not mad at Kopitar, just disappointed.

I still think Kopitar is essentially playing himself into shape. He is not in world class shape, and it's finally costing him on the ice, due to being older.

It is what it is, but it's disappointing, especially when Kopitar is asking for a lot of money on a new contract.

Great game by the second line, and Quick+Defense.

That's why Dean is giving him the "sure, Jan" treatment

I thought Carter's OT winner was wonderful, and people weren't giving him nearly enough credit. I wrote a little thing on reddit.com/r/losangeleskings, but of course they don't pay attention to quality there so I thought I'd post it with the "Authentic Fans" here as well.

Doughty's coordination and quick thinking was great, obviously, but I wanted to point out Carter's play as well.

Go find an extended replay and watch it. (Can I post a streamable link here?)

Carter is exhausted there. It was (if I recall) already a long shift, with a LOT of open ice, and that means a lot of skating. The fact that he had barely made the red line when Doughty's pass found him is a good indicator of this; he just didn't have the gas left in the tank to backcheck. But, like any good scorer, getting the puck on his stick and seeing open ice in front of him gave him enough energy to manage one last burst.

Notice the way that his skating is labored coming through the neutral zone, and he doesn't handle the puck cleanly when he receives the pass. Those are both unusual for him--he's normally a very smooth and powerful in his skating, and his hands are typically excellent. You can see the exhaustion in the sloppiness with which he begins his run in, as he pushes the puck too far ahead of himself with his first touch, and must then take a few extra strides and shift his angle slightly to regain full possession.

Ironically, it ends up helping him. His instincts are to shoot, and most of his one-on-one opportunities will quite rightly end with him sniping it, taking advantage of his excellent shooting abilities. Here, however, his bobble of the puck took him too long to recover and he didn't have the space to set himself. By the time he reached the top of the circle, the puck was in his skates, and he didn't have his weight set properly to get off the shot that he probably wanted. The upside of this is that his crazy and half-controlled approach kept Rinne deeper in his net than he wanted. So, without a clean shot and a goalie deep in his net, Carter was practically forced to cut across the crease, and out-wait Rinne. Rinne, I'm sure, is kicking himself for committing when he did. But, Carter, despite the obvious exhaustion manifest in his legs and hands, kept his head and took his time.
Great ****ing goal.

Great ****ing goal.

That's a great summary of what happened. I love the game within the game analysis!

He's definitely not making a case for a bigger/longer contract. If he didn't start the season in shape that's ****ing pathetic. Right now he looks more like Martin Hanzal than the dominant player we once knew.

Carter had a beautiful finish on that goal, but that play by Doughty was amazing. I worry when Toffoli and Carter eventually dry up.

Kopitar Is Great Brown Not so Much!!!

Kopitar and Brown aren't worth the money we pay them (or plan to pay them). Go Kings!

The only reason Brown has put up decent numbers was because of Kopitar!Brown does very little to compliment him if he's not hitting and making space. Brown doesn't do anything else well. Gaborik on the otherhand can shot, pass and score if given a chance with a legitimate top line centre(not Lewis or NShore)!Kopi's line struggles because Brown doesn't carry his weight and Gabby struggles because Sutter is playing him with a couple of plumbers!!!Kopitar needs to be put with Gaborik again with Pearson and Brown needs to play the 3rd line with his American buddies!!!Maybe just maybe the 1st comes out their funk and starts to light it up!!!

Sadly, very true right now.

Fortunately, JC has been absolute bargain since the year the Kings acquired him. Seems like every winger that joins his line has had success. Pearson, then King, now Lucic. Toffs contributes to this too of course.

Been at the track all day. Great to see them continue the streak.

Toffoli is a homegrown gem.

Kings are looking really good after that putrid start - winning on the road, winning in OT, beating Nashville in LA. Love it.

Of course, duck fans really want to believe that the Kings are worse off with Toffoli scoring a lot.

If he cools off, who will pick up the slack? I noticed Sutter promoted Gaborik back to the top line, and sent Pearson back to the purgatory-third. But then Sutter opens up the overtime with him. Talk about mixed signals.
