I remember when we first got him, there were a lot of people saying "he only scores in blowouts" , "he floats and takes nights off", yadayadayada. Carts has gone from a sniper to a complete two-way center/sniper. I dont know where the Kings would be without him

We'd probably be like the Flyers :D

Carter has developed into such a great player. He's always been good, and very much underrated back in his Philadelphia days, but now I feel like he's one of the best centers in the NHL.

Jim Fox was already lobbying him for the WC team. And he deserves to be on the team the way he plays above one of the "sexy picks" you know will make it.

I don't think Carter is a secret to team Canada. Remember the uproar about the Olympics

Ziggy read my mind.

He was one of the top forwards on the gold medal winning Canadian Olympic team in 2014.

What's funny is that there were a number of dumbasses who don't watch the Kings that questioned Carter's selection, but his play sure shut them up.

Edit: Brad Doty beat me to the punch by a millisecond ;)

I know. He was one of the better forward in the Olympics and many thought he'd be one of the extra forwards or shouldn't have been there at all.

Babcock, "Carter you're not here to pass"
Carter-> hat trick next game. Could have had a 4th, but Getzlaugh was being outplayed badly and failed to pass Carter the puck because he took the shot instead.

I'm going to catch a lot of heat for this, but this is my honest opinion. I think Carter has become so dominate, in all zones that it makes Kopitar expendable if he won't sign for 8 million or less.

I love Kopitar, but I think with Carter's emergence in his 2 way game the Kings might be better off taking kopi's 9-10 million dollars and signing a cheaper 2nd line center and have the cap space to either go after a 3rd line center or upgrade the top 4 D.

I would prefer obviously to keep kopitar, I just don't think he's going to be worth north of 8 million a year.

Teams need a 1-2 punch at Center to win Cups. Carter and Kopitar are it. If Kopitar goes, there's no one anywhere close to Kopitar's caliber internally to replace him with, and even via trade it's hard for me to imagine a trade partner where they would willingly take an 8M+ Kopitar in exchange for a #2 center (if you're asserting Carter would be our new #1 center) that is Kings cap friendly. That would be something like Seguin for Kopitar i.e. a trade partner would get an $8-9M #1 center in exchange for their current $6-7M #1 center that would become the Kings #2.

It's technically possible, but extremely difficult (and Lombardi would almost certainly limit trade partners to the Eastern conference).

Well after the first game these dumbasses still questioned him. He would not be good enough to play with Crosby because Canada's fanboy went scoreless.

All this talk was pretty disgusting to read.

Carter had to score a hattrick and more goals to shut them up.

I remember lots of fans here in Calgary were pissed when Carter made the team. I just told them to wait and see.
BOOM - top forward

This is my fear with Kpoitar going. I am not worried about our top line centre but our second line guy.
Maybe if Montreal offered up Plekanec +, but not sure they would.

Edit: And I would still be upset

About the only team I could see working from the East would be Ottawa for Turris+ or Zibanejad+.

Not endorsing a move for either, just expanding on your idea.
