Upset that Lucic didn't take a run a Reaves. What happened to sending a message when you mess with top players? You think had that happened to Gretzky, McSorley would have allowed that???? Times sure have changed.

What is running Reaves going to do? He's one of the biggest guys in the league. A punch or two isn't going to make him stop whatever it is that he does.

Fighting is great and all, scrums can angry up the blood and be exciting, but it's never been a deterrent to anything. Just look at McSorley's penalty minutes as an example. You don't rack up those numbers if other players ever hear the message being sent.

Going after Reaves doesn't bring Kopitar back last night. If the game was 5-1, either way, maybe you see something more. The Kings needed the 2 points though, and they're already down Kopitar, they don't need Lucic gone for the game with a misconduct on top of it.

3? years ago when the kings/ducks did the rookie games at honda center, then TSC I went to the Honda center one, and this kid Weal was skating around ****ING EVERYBODY. It was sick.
Watched him a bit in the AHL... Good there too... Though at times trying to do too much and not succeeding.
Been waiting for it.

He did some stuff preseason... Though against other preseason players. Even then he didn't stand out QUITE as much as hoped.
His first game I barely notice him... Though he was benched pretty quick.
Again tonight... Nothing stand out :(

I wanna say he is not given the right opportunity. The right players to compliment him... But I am not willing to really argue that.

I hope he gets more of a chance, and is able to show off a bit... I feel like he should be able to... But for now its unfortunate that he has only had a couple short opportunities, and not been able to shine on them. Unsure what to expect with him going forward.

Good post.

Weal was more involved in the play last night compared to his first game, which is progress. Weal and Forbort just need to play more in order to relax a bit, feel more comfortable and adjust to the NHL pace.

Andreoff is starting to look like a real hockey player, making some nice plays and checking better. He can fight too, although not sure how he'd do against heavyweights. Also, Shore is being more assertive and doing better on faceoffs. Hopefully he can start showing some improved puck handling and playmaking ability.

The Kings are going to need these young guys (probably including Mersch soon too) to play reliable minutes and make usefull contributions. This year and next year (Kempe? Gravel?) the viability of the Kings remaing a top contender will be determined.

^ agree ballpointhammer. rookies need minutes to be able to gel with the team, linemates, and show their best. don't think you can expect 6 mins a game to reveal a whole lot. gotta give it some time.

someone like shore has played how many nhl games now? 46? 47? and he has 2 goals. he's still developing but he's gotten a lot of TOI for that. even andreoff who played only 18 games last year had played about half of those by this time last season. so it's a process. but it's also actually getting the minutes and finding your role.

toffoli and pearson were obviously already great players but when they came up they came up together and stayed together on the same line, along with vey at first, then carter for the 70s line, meaning there was already a certain chemistry happening there. that could've helped their transition a little bit anyhow. although toffoli would make it anywhere, it's been more difficult for pearson since they've been split up; that's obvious.

linemates/chemistry plays a part too.

FWIW, I think the Upshall elbow on Toffoli was much worse than what Reaves did to Kopitar, although the end results sere much different. To me, it looked like Reaves looked over his shoulder, saw Kopitar, and jabbed out with his stick with the intention of jostling for position and getting under Kopitar's skin. I don't think he was targeting the head; just got careless.

There's no defending Upshall's flyby elbow though.

Did Willie teach Lewis his change of direction moves along the boards before he left this Summer? Lewis is one slippery ******* now along the boards with the puck.

Jamie McBain is still undefeated this season.

Also, given the extreme concussion precautions given to Ehrhoff and Kopitar this week (i.e., not coming back for the whole game), I have to wonder if the Kings have instituted a much stricter policy regarding head injuries since Mike Richards' career nose-dived (presumably because of head trauma).

The league implemented the change during the off-season. They now have doctors in the arena that are impartial. If they feel that a player has gotten his bell rung, they can say they are done for the night. They get reevaluated in the morning and we go from there.

no **** that was a dirty friggin play.
Anyone have an update on Kopitar?

Shouldn't have run Reaves should have ran one of their top guys, and said this is because Reaves is a jackass

No kidding. It happened all night but one shift in particular he had the puck for like 30 seconds on the boards against some of the Blues' best checkers. Love it.

Was a fun game in retrospect, hope everyone is okay today. Was a hell of a goaltending battle for a while. Can't believe we were so close to another TT goal

Let's not undersell that we played a fast, skilled thinking team in night one and the bigger bruising team on night two of a b2b, can't undersell how important and good of a win it was in that situation with Enroth in (who played fantastic) and mostly without Kopi.

And there it is, Reaves got a max fine. I'm okay with this.

Hope to hear something about Upshall's ******** though.

Video just isn't conclusive enough, unfortunately.

Yep, and he's getting the benefit of the doubt, which he should at this point. But he won't be able to get away with anything like that again, his goodwill equity is gone now, he's a 4th-liner with a record.

No point in running Reaves... Target Tarasenko and Pietrangelo... unfortunately we don't have anyone on the team that's willing to send a message. Hey Captain No Goals, what are you doing?

thank god reaves got something for that.
hope kopi is feeling well.

also good to hear the NHL implementing neutral doctors to assess situations - esp concussions, of which successive ones can be extremely damaging.

Seriously, I can't believe there was no response to any of these malicious plays. I guess winning is the best revenge, but I would have honestly rather seen a loss with the Kings answering to Reaves. Kopitar had better ****ing be okay. I can't enjoy this win at all, the whole thing doesn't sit well with me.

I appreciate the passion from you, but it's a bit over the top, in my opinion. I'm pretty sure Kopi will be in the lineup tomorrow night and that Upshaw stupidity happens all the time.

The next game against St. Louis should be fun. It's on Saturday, January 9. Although I must say the most admirable thing about the Kings is their discipline. Don't expect them to avenge anything. Winning is the best revenge.

If Williams was on the team you would have seen a scuffle at least. I didn't expect anything from the Kings. The last time Kopi got hurt I think Richards fought someone.

Again, the Kings are a disciplined team. Two Stanley Cups later, then know what the important prize is.

They never have gone after Mike Smith after his behavior in the 2012 WCF when Sutter did (kind of) promise something would occur later.

Discipline = Cups = best revenge

I'm glad Reeves has a record now, I'm okaay with the fine in that they are trying to stay unbiased. That whole game from the Blose looked like a thugfest.

I'm glad the Kings are staying the course, It's the best we can do at times like this when DoPS isn't looking out for player safety.
